POSITION: STRATTON ELEMENTARY PRINCIPAL


JOB GOALS: The principal serves as the instructional and operational leader of the school, developing and supporting school-based student programming and strong family partnerships in support of teaching, learning, and student achievement.


Minimum Qualifications


  • Master’s Degree or higher from an accredited college or university with concentration in Administration, Supervision and/or Curriculum.
  • Licensure as an Elementary School Principal by the Department of Elementary & Secondary Education in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • Previous administrative experience preferred.
  • At least five years of successful elementary school teaching or leadership experience with evidence of strong leadership ability.


Knowledge & Skills


  • Demonstrated ability with developmentally appropriate programs, interdisciplinary curriculum, and integrated Special Education programs.
  • Excellent public relations skills and tangible evidence of ability to proactively respond to the needs of students, parents, colleagues, and the central administration.
  • Knowledge of current practices in elementary curriculum and pedagogy, including implementation and evaluation of curriculum.
  • Demonstrated professional knowledge of anti-racist and culturally responsive teaching and leadership practices.


Performance Responsibilities


  • Communicate routinely and develop two-way relationships with families, in alignment with district-wide expectations for school-based communication and programming.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of school programs and submit reports to the Superintendent as needed.
  • Perform all additional related duties assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.
  • Serve as co-chair of the School Council and activate, implement and monitor all school council activities relative to goals, student performance standards, the school improvement plan and the professional development plan.
  • Complete the formal evaluation process of staff under his/her supervision and evaluate other staff as directed by the Superintendent.
  • Hire school staff with the approval of the Superintendent.
  • Work with support staff and community agencies in the development of programs for children with special needs.
  • Coordinate parent and community involvement in school activities, consistent with system-wide goals.
  • Work cooperatively with and follow the guidelines of the Deputy and Assistant Superintendents in implementing programs, delivering related services, and managing budgets.
  • Work with the Administrative Cabinet in ongoing policy implementation and decision making for programs, professional development, and operations of the school.
  • Serve as the instructional leader of the building in collaboration with coaches, school leadership teams, and district leaders.
  • Supervise the operation of an elementary school to ensure compliance with existing School Committee policies, town by-laws, and federal and state education statute and regulations.
  • Work with joint occupants in the building to enable access to extracurricular programing or before-/after-school care for students.


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full Year


REPORTS TO: Superintendent of Schools or Deputy Superintendent of Schools, as Assigned


SUPERVISES: Classroom teachers, special subject teachers and support staff in the building.
