This Opportunity

Nationally recognized as a Top 100 Internship Program, WSP USA hosts hundreds of interns across the United States to gain hands-on, meaningful work experience to enhance their education and professional aptitude. Our interns gain exposure to real projects while working side by side with senior staff. Our Property and Buildings Team is seeking a Electrical Engineering Intern to work out of our New York, NY office. This position is seeking currently enrolled Undergraduate students. This internship is anticipated to take place during the Winter Break 2023-2024 season.

We are a global leader in the practice of structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection engineering and related specialty services for the built environment. We work closely with architects and owners from around the world on large, complex projects with a focus on sustainability and energy performance of the built environment. Our Engineers work on high quality, high-profile, national and international projects. You will actively participate in the full project cycle, from the design phase through the final construction close-out. WSP offers excellent growth opportunities.

Your Impact

  • Learn basic principles of Electrical Engineering.
  • Assist with project research, field work, and preliminary design calculations and analysis.
  • Construction administration.
  • Perform electrical load, short circuit and voltage drop calculations.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
  • Assist in collecting and maintaining project documentation.
  • Support a variety of engineering tasks with the goal to develop technical, social, and ethical skills.
  • Scheduling and selecting of electrical components and equipment.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Please note that there is no relocation or housing assistance associated with this internship.
  • Complete training on assigned tasks.
  • Coordinate design activities with other multi-discipline project team members.
  • Design of electric distribution systems, fire alarm systems, and lighting control systems.
  • Work within multi-discipline project teams to develop drawings and specification documents for issuance to architects, contractors and building owners.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
  • Capable of taking direction from leadership, mentors, and managers to executive projects.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Demonstrated interest in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field and have a strong desire to advance skills related to WSP’s work and projects.
  • Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship
  • Actively enrolled in an accredited Electrical Engineering, or related Undergraduate program.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior building design or construction internship and leadership involvement on campus.
  • Experience using AutoCAD and/or Revit.
  • Please note that there is no relocation or housing assistance associated with this internship.

Compensation

Expected Salary: $16.00 - $25.00 per hour

WSP USA is providing the compensation range and general description of other compensation and benefits that the company in good faith believes it might pay and/or offer for this position based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, or federal law.
