Arxada is looking for an EHS Manager to support our Rochester, NY plant. This person will manage the safety, security and environmental functions of the Rochester plant. Develop and carryout procedures that effectively control accident, environmental health and security exposures in the Company in line with OSHA, EPA, DEC, DHS and Regulatory compliance. Focus on the “Vision of Zero” as it relates to injuries, process incidents and environmental incidents. Also, lead efforts to improve process effectiveness in the areas of safety and environment. Lead, direct and train plant supervision and employees to comply with all applicable laws. This individual will adhere to all Company ethical standards and lead by example for ethical compliance. Will be an active member of the Plant Steering Team.
Essential Job Functions:
  • Member of the PSM Team with direct responsibility for: Compliance Audits, Incident Investigations and Hot Work. Indirect Responsibility for Process Hazard Analysis and Emergency Planning.
  • Facilitates site “License to operate Air, Wastewater, Storm water, Groundwater, Hazardous & Non-Hazardous Waste, and Homeland Security.
  • Must acquire a working knowledge of current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and Good Document Practices (GDP).
  • Manages the Rochester Plant EHS programs (including PSM) to enforce regulations and to provide assistance to the plant in reducing risks and accidents. Will prioritize concerns and justify capital or expense that needs to be spent to reduce Arxada’s liability.
  • Responsible for all EHS programs on site including Work Permits, Industrial Hygiene, Workers Comp, Incident Investigation, etc.
  • Must be an active behavior based safety observer/participant, lead and encourage team to perform observations. Will champion and lead this effort throughout the plant to encourage and drive participation by all employees.
  • Responsible for coordinating and assisting with the administration of Arxada Rochester “Vision of Zero” which includes the plant behavioral based safety process. The purpose is to have Zero injuries, Zero process incidents, Zero distribution incidents, Zero Security incidents, Zero environmental incidents and Zero ethical issues. Will coordinate and lead the plant safety team and ensure all concerns raised by the team are addressed.
  • Supports the “Product Stewardship” initiative to ensure the health, safety and environmental performance of our products throughout the products’ life cycles.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Demonstrated leadership skills running a safety and health function
  • Demonstrated ability to improve safety programs and culture
  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, safety engineering, industrial hygiene or comparable field
  • CSP, CIH, or other professional safety and health certification desired
  • Maintain OSHA 9001 certification
  • Minimum 5 years plant experience in one or more location(s) of similar size and complexity
  • Minimum 10 years environmental safety and health management experience in chemical industry
