Job Description

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

  • The EEG Tech performs quality EEG, seizure monitoring, and evoked potential recordings. Has the ability to scan, correlate, and clip study information.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Informs the supervisor and/or the physician of changes in the patients condition or abnormalities on the recording.
  • Types, duplicates and files reports and records in a neat and orderly fashion.
  • Accepts call coverage as required.
  • Departmental charges done accurately and efficiently.
  • Communicates with patients and family members appropriate to age and instructs them in techniques to optimize their care in the hospital, as well as after discharge.
  • Collects pertinent patient history information, properly preparing patient according to age, conducting the exam and preparing the recording for the physician interpretation.
  • Maintains supplies and equipment for patient care and maintains an orderly and efficient system for storage and retrieval of patient information.
  • Practices, develops and endorses customer service skills in relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Accurately documents, posts, and charges for procedures to ensure quality standards set by the department and hospital.
  • Ensures equipment is in good working condition and initiates appropriate contacts when repairs are required.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and uses appropriate activation procedures.
  • Ability to observe EEG tracings and respond appropriately to seizure activity.
  • Orders office supplies as required.
  • Coordinates scheduling of patients and mails subsequent report to requesting physician.
  • Practices, develops and endorses customer service skills in relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Performs quality EEG/seizure monitoring studies and prints out events for physician interpretation.
  • Able to archive studies, copy to appropriate storage device, and troubleshoot equipment issues.
  • Answers telephone and responds to questions; Records information and/or relays information to appropriate persons.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstracts and concrete variables.
  • Knowledge of EEG equipment.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and valid conclusions.
  • Ability to communicate with patient, family, peers and medical personnel.
  • 3 years experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and training.
  • Graduate from an approved EEG program or degree in related preferred.
  • Certification by the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic Technologies, preferred but not required
  • Excellent leadership skills.
  • CPR certified.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

  • Must be able to exchange accurate information with patient, family, peers and medical personnel.
  • Some moderately heaving lifting required. Some lifting or assisting of non-ambulatory patients required.
  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Must have normal hearing.
  • May be exposed to uncooperative or disruptive patients.
