Position Summary (See on Posting for Full Details):

Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Superintendent of Instructional Services, the Educational Systems Consultant – Literacy assists the District and its Local Education Agencies (LEA) to ensure students receive high-quality literacy instruction. This position leads the development and improvement of coaches and teachers by providing professional learning, observing classroom instruction, modeling literacy practices and routines, conducting feedback conversations, and analyzing data by working with educators to support the implementation of best practices in literacy. The position serves as the literacy content expert and provides support on curriculum, high-quality instructional practices (modeling, showing, explaining, demonstrating, exploring ideas, encouraging, questioning, recalling), and the science of teaching reading.

The position will also participate with a variety of professional affiliations and networks as an opportunity to enhance their own professional learning while also coordinating and communicating information to districts as appropriate.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS (If Applicable):

Required

  • Michigan Teacher Certification

Desired

  • Reading Specialist Certification

EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:

Required

  • Master’s degree with advanced coursework in reading or has completed a professional development in evidence-based literacy core instructional strategies.
  • Two (2) years or more experience with coaching staff/administration
  • Five (5) years or more experience in education, school improvement, and MTSS

PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Standing/Walking/Bending/Stooping – some
  • Position will require work in the evenings or summer months.
  • Regular and predictable attendance at the workplace.
  • Lifting – involves minor lifting
  • Sitting – possibility of long periods of time
  • Requires that the employee provide his or her own transportation for job-related travel.
