As the Educational and Behavioral Specialist, you will act as a positive youth mentor and role model for a relatively small but incredibly diverse group of students in a therapeutic school environment. Along with a skilled and passionate team, you will assist in managing student behavior and conduct, providing social skill development, and supporting students both individually and in group settings. As an educator, you will assist teachers as they provide engaging and relevant classroom activities that take an individualized approach for student learning. As a behavioral specialist, you will develop therapeutic relationships with students as part of a treatment team and see real progress in students, progress that is evaluated at least quarterly. Successful candidates will learn within a couple of months of employment how to teach at least one class per term that capitalizes on their strengths and interests while meeting student needs and addressing the Oregon state standards for high school students.

Center Point School is a registered and approved alternative school that offers specialized education for each student in a therapeutic school environment for youth with emotional, neurological, and/or behavioral issues. Center Point School also provides services to students' families that address trust, communication skills, conflict resolution, incentives and consequences for behavior, relationship dynamics, and support with basic needs such as groceries.

Successful Educational and Behavioral Specialists have the ability to respond quickly to unpredictable student behaviors and have worked with youth who have emotional disturbance, neurological and/or behavioral disorders for one year. You will be required to perform some physical labor duties which can include lifting, pushing, and pulling items up to 30 lbs. It is preferred to have an associate's or bachelor's degree in a behavioral science field and to understand counseling practices. You must have some experience with Microsoft and Word computer software with the ability to use e-mail, intranets, and relevant internet sites.


Cultural sensitivity and experience working with people from diverse cultural backgrounds are a must. You must be able to relate effectively to folks from all different backgrounds and abilities.
