The Kentucky Department of Education, Office of Career and Technical Education (OCTE), Division of Student Transition and Career Readiness, Career Programs and Pathways Branch has an opening for an Education Academic Program Consultant.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Under general direction, provide consultative services and technical assistance to local school district personnel and other state and private educational agencies in planning, developing, implementing and evaluating curriculum and assessment content for Computer Science and Media Arts programs at the middle and high school level.
  • Provide leadership in the development and review of computer science standards associated with information technology and media arts end-of-program assessments and related industry certifications.
  • Provide leadership and consultative services in planning, development, implementation and monitoring of the middle and high school information technology and media arts programs including related career and technical student organizations - SkillsUSA, FBLA, and TSA.
  • Collaborate with various internal and external stakeholders to promote computer science initiatives and recruit K-12 educators.
  • Provide technical assistance to local school districts, schools, and teachers in meeting the requirements state and federal reporting for career and technical education.
  • Collaborate with business and industry, postsecondary institutions, professional organizations, KDE and OCTE to fully implement information technology and media arts career pathways through development, implementation, and facilitation of strategic professional development for middle and high school teachers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a master's degree in education or a related field.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Five years of professional experience in the field of education.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: NONE

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Current Rank II or Rank I certification by the Kentucky Department of Education or Education Professional Standards Board will substitute for the required educational requirement. Additional professional experience in the field of education will substitute for the required educational requirement on a year for year basis.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): NONE
Working Conditions
Work is typically performed in an office or school setting. Travel may be required.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
