Position Description

The Division of Health Care Financing and Policy (DHCFP) is recruiting for an Economist 3 within the Office of Analytics in Carson City NV. The incumbent is responsible for the analysis of healthcare data to include medical and pharmacy claims as well as other provider financial and statistical data; preparing reports on utilization and financial reports; calculating and preparing analyses showing fiscal impact of rate changes or other proposals; and presenting at various forums as applicable. The incumbent maintains data quality and control and completes all requests related to claims data within specified timeframes in a fast-paced working environment under minimal supervision. This position requires the demonstrated use of statistical methods and programs utilizing SAS, STATA, or similar analytic software. This position may also assist in completing and preparing analyses related to department-wide caseload data, including preparing monthly and quarterly caseload forecasts for DHHS programs. This position may require travel both in and out of state up to 25%.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in economics, labor economics, econometrics, statistics or a related field and three years of professional experience in conducting statistical/economic data collection, analysis and research involving the application of advanced statistical, mathematical and economic principles and research modeling; OR one year of experience as an Economist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

  • Experience in STATA, SAS, or a comparable analytic software and/or programming language is required
