Position Information

Primary Purpose Of Organizational Unit

Established in 1936, we are the second oldest theatre department in the country. Our faculty members are both scholars and artists, teachers, and practitioners, constantly moving back and forth between the classroom and the theatre. PlayMakers Repertory Company (a nationally regarded LORT D theatre) is embedded within the Department and the symbiotic relationship between them is at the vital center of who we are. The Joan H. Gillings Center for Dramatic Art is the crucible where students transform learning into practice every day. Our mission is to educate students to think critically and write cogently about the creative and artistic processes of global theatre, its literature, and its history. PlayMakers Repertory Company ( PRC ) is the professional theater in residence at UNC -CH, and North Carolina’s premier resident theater company for over 45 years. PRC produces relevant and courageous work that tells stories from and for a multiplicity of perspectives and creates transformational impact in our immediate and extended communities. PRC is committed to the work of becoming an inclusive organization accessible to all.

In close coordination with the Chair and Director of Undergraduate Production in the Department of Dramatic Art, the Dramaturgy Fellow will advise the Kenan Theatre Company ( KTC ), our undergraduate production arm, and its Producing Board on season selection ensuring that they are reading and seriously considering a diverse group of writers. Additional duties include but are not limited to curation of extension and enrichment programs, events, and activities around PRC / KTC productions such as symposia, panels, and lobby displays, among others. Engagement with undergraduate and graduate students both inside and outside the classroom and rehearsal halls is encouraged. The Fellow will also mentor undergraduate dramaturgs for KTC .
