Come be a part of something that sustains and enriches the lives of every human being. As a Drafter - Nuclear, you will be an integral member of the Nuclear Team. The Nuclear Drafter will be reviewing the Owner Design Specifications and preparing the Design Checking Package for review. You will be creating BOMs, 3D models, and 2D drawings for the orders as part of the Design Checking Package. This is a unique opportunity to design valves that are tightly controlled by ASME standards that is destined for use in Nuclear Power Plants.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Prepares General Arrangement and Cross Section Drawings
  • Uses PTC-Windchill for product lifecycle management (maintenance of nuclear drawing container).
  • Prepares bills of materials and assists in routing of product through production floor processes.
  • Prepares drafts of detailed instructions for assembly of nuclear valves and appurtenances.
  • Uses relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether design complies with ASME standards.
  • Produces detailed design drawings in Solidworks, Autodesk Mechanical Desktop, and PTC CREO for fabrication of Pratt Nuclear rated water valves compliant with ASME standards (Y14.5).
  • Creates detailed Design Checking Packages from which engineering work for nuclear orders are progressed.
  • Researches and pulls records from previous orders for development of design packages.
  • Assists in organization and set up of engineering library and order folders.
  • Develops specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish work.
  • Prepares drafts of installation, operation, and maintenance manuals in support of power plant design and operation.
  • Produces 3D models in Solidworks, Autodesk Mechanical Desktop, and PTC CREO of all parts for use in assembly models, visual representations, FEA analysis, and CAM programs.
  • Participates in program audits of departments other than Design of the Nuclear Program.
  • Works assignments for progression of engineering change requests and notices.
  • Modifies and updates 2D drawings and 3D models (most legacy drawing documentations requires transition to current formats or first digitization).
  • Participates in program audits as SME for preparation of Design Checking Package.
Required Skills:
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills as well as the ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Ability to work in a Quality Controlled program.
  • Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Experience with Solidworks, AutoCad, and PTC CREO.
  • Communicating effectively to groups including production, materials, engineering, etc.
  • Understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Using mathematics to solve problems.
Required Education/Experience:
  • 4-year degree in engineering discipline with 3-5 years’ experience.
  • Minimum associate degree in design with 5-10 years’ experience
Preferred:
  • PTC Windchill experience
  • Experience with 3D Models for manufacturing and drawings compliant with ASME Y14.5
  • Experience with ASTM material callouts
  • Valve design experience
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to occasionally reach overhead or at or below shoulder level.
  • Ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects up to 25 pounds in weight in all directions.
  • Ability to remain in stationary position or standing position for prolonged periods and alternate between
  • Ability to repeat gross or fine manipulation that may include the use of wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Ability to constantly communicate with others to exchange information in person, via phone, or via use of computer.
  • Ability to occasionally stoop, crouch, or kneel.
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including, but not limited to, safety glasses, steel-toed or metatarsal-guarded shoes, and/or ear plugs, while working in an industrial and/or manufacturing environment.
