Background

Since 1976, St. Joseph Center has been meeting the needs of low-income and homeless individuals and families in Venice, Santa Monica, Mar Vista, and surrounding communities. The Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit community organization that assists people without regard for religious affiliation or lack thereof through comprehensive case management and integrated social service programs. The Center enjoys broad-based community support as well as a sponsored relationship with its founders, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet. St. Joseph Center serves approximately 6,000 individuals annually.

Brief Description of Principal Activities

Multifaceted intervention, prevention, and education services are carried out at four sites on the Westside of Los Angeles. St. Joseph Center’s integrated programs provide clients with concentrated and coordinated access to services according to the nature of their needs.



Job Summary

The Domestic Violence Coordinator will be responsible for supporting and enhancing the connections between domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking service providers and CES service providers, including crisis and permanent housing providers to ensure that those clients are able to utilize CES housing resources to quickly return to stable and permanent housing.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Domestic Violence Coordinator’s key areas of responsibility and essential duties include:

  • Provide strategic coordination and ongoing training on regulations and best practices to regional agencies.
  • Regular engagement with other SPA-based DV Coordinators and LAHSA’s DV Coordinator.
  • Coordinate and participate in case conferencing of clients experiencing domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking being referred to and from CES.
  • Create and maintain an ongoing relationship with administrative and program staff at participating agencies.

Qualifications


QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge and understanding of policy, systems and local programs that impact homeless persons and related public funding sources, regulations, requirements and procedures.
  • Strong knowledge of evidence based practices utilized in homeless services for domestic violence survivors.
  • Capacity to put theory into practice and support implementation at the program level.
  • Ability to establish excellent relationships and work cooperatively with individuals, groups and organizations diverse in mission, composition, function, capacity, and geographic location.
  • Ability to think critically and strategically.
  • Ability to communicate clearly.
  • Ability to quickly grasp concepts and apply them to solve complex social problems.
  • Ability to articulate and strategically pursue new ideas to improve domestic violence and homeless systems.
  • Ability to effectively facilitate productive discussion among diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Strong organizational skills and proven ability to work independently.

Experience:

  • Knowledge of case management and case conferencing.
  • Experience with domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking programs and the Los Angeles Coordinated Entry System and homeless services, including but not limited to knowledge of best practices and relevant statutes and regulations.
  • Strong facilitation and mediation skills.
  • At least three years relevant work experience in the provision or oversight of domestic violence services program is preferred.

Education:

  • Strong facilitation and mediation skills.
  • 40-hour domestic violence counselor training certificate.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree desirable.

Computer Skills:

  • Ability to use widely supported internet browsers.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

Certificates, Licenses and Registrations:

  • Valid automobile liability insurance.
  • Valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

Travel Requirements:

  • Local travel may be required.
