WORKING TITLE: Distance Education Liaison

UW SYSTEM OFFICIAL TITLE: Academic Program Specialist

POSTING DATE: May 9, 2023

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

This position reports to the Associate Provost for Academic Affairs and supports the distance education and online learning innovation in each of the four Colleges by sharing best practices and connecting colleagues to the appropriate resources. The Liaison works to enhance student access and success, and promotes high-quality online learning. The Liaison works with the academic Deans to advance their initiatives in online and distance education, and facilitates collaboration with a number of divisions and offices, including the Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning (CATL), Enrollment Services, University Inclusivity and Student Affairs, Information Technology, and Institutional Strategy and Effectiveness to ensure the University's distance education goals are achieved and the needs of our online students are met. The Liaison is responsible for maintaining the institution's federal, state, and accreditation standards and compliance with regard to online and distance education.

This position includes the following responsibilities:

  • In consultation with the Office of Institutional Strategy and Effectiveness, prepare reports about online and distance education.
  • Advise appropriate departments and offices on federal, state, and accreditation standards and ensure that compliance with regard to online and distance education is maintained.
  • Foster a sense of mission and teamwork throughout the University’s online learning community.
  • Remain current regarding issues and trends affecting online and distance learning in higher education, and discern how these issues and trends can be adapted to benefit the University.
  • Develop, implement, update, and review the University’s strategic and operational online and distance education plans and policies.
  • Serve as a resource for the Division of Information Technology on matters pertaining to technical support services and maintaining adequate technological infrastructure to promote current best practices in online learning functionality and delivery.
  • Support development of innovative online learning curricula and services that enhance student access and success.

QUALIFICATIONS:


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of current best practices in online education, including assessment and program development
  • Demonstrable organizational and planning experience
  • Bachelor's Degree at time of application
  • Strong commitment to student success, especially in an online learning environment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two years of experience working in an online and/or distance education environment
  • Experience with Canvas
  • Master’s degree in a relevant field
  • Experience using a variety of online and/or distance education modes and technologies to support a variety of learners
  • Knowledge of and skill using appropriate data analytical tools to develop and track benchmarks

Position is a full-time Academic Staff appointment. This position may have the option to work on-campus or a hybrid schedule subject to approved telecommuting request. SALARY INFORMATION

Minimum salary of $60,000.

This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

BENEFIT DETAILS

UW System provides an excellent benefits package to meet the diverse needs of its employees. This includes several health insurance options, with annual deductibles as low as $250/individual and $500/family. Our benefits package also includes dental, vision, several life insurance options, AD&D and Accident insurance and Flexible Spending and Health Savings Accounts. We participate in the Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS), where employer contributions begin immediately and employees are fully vested after 5 years of service. The UW System also provides supplemental retirement savings programs including a 403(b) and Deferred Compensation.

In addition, employees receive several types of paid leave benefits, which are prorated for employees working less than 100%. This includes 9 legal holidays, 36 hours of personal holiday and between 96-130 hours of sick leave annually. Employees earn 13-27 days of vacation each year, depending on years of service and employment type.
