Job Description
PACE Supply is thrilled to announce an exciting opportunity for a skilled Dispatcher to join our team in a pivotal role. As a Dispatcher at PACE Supply, you'll be at the heart of our operations, ensuring seamless deliveries and exceptional customer experiences. Your primary responsibility will be to orchestrate the efficient scheduling and assignment of tasks. You'll masterfully coordinate routes, vehicles, and drivers, guaranteeing on-time and effective deliveries that exceed customer expectations. Your meticulous record-keeping skills will shine as you document departure times, destinations, and products. The ideal candidate will bring their forklift certification to the table, demonstrating their commitment to excellence. If you also hold a Class A commercial driver's license (CDL), your versatility will be an asset, enhancing your ability to contribute to various aspects of the role.


Freight Coordination and Scheduling


  • Collaborate with the warehouse team to ensure accurate order picking and loading onto delivery vehicles.
  • Manage available vehicles and drivers for optimal fleet utilization.
  • Identify inefficiencies and suggest improvements.
  • Determine delivery sequence based on urgency, customer preferences, and logistical factors.
  • Receive and process incoming orders for transportation of goods.
  • Plan and coordinate routes for delivery trucks based on order destinations and deadlines.


Load Planning and Unloading


  • Collaborate with warehouse staff to ensure proper loading of freight onto delivery vehicles.
  • Communicate loading instructions to warehouse personnel to ensure safe handling and transportation.
  • Verify that loaded freight is secure, balanced, and properly distributed within the vehicles.


Communication and Reporting


  • Maintain communication with drivers to monitor progress, address delays, and adjust plans.
  • Provide drivers with clear instructions, route details, and relevant customer information.
  • Address inquiries, update customers about timings, and manage changes effectively.
  • Document incidents, delays, and accidents for proper reporting.


Logistical Problem-Solving


  • Address and resolve any delivery-related problems such as late deliveries, damaged goods, or routing errors.
  • Traffic and Weather Considerations, monitor conditions and provide alternate routes when needed.
  • Analyze delivery data for operational enhancements.
  • Address unexpected challenges like breakdowns or road closures to ensure smooth operations.
  • Monitor vehicles and routes using GPS systems. Continuously analyze routes to minimize travel time, fuel consumption, and emissions.
  • Collaborate with drivers, warehouse staff, and customer service to develop solutions to unexpected challenges.


Documentation and Record Keeping


  • Generate shipping labels, bills of lading, and other necessary documentation for each shipment.
  • Maintain accurate records of incoming and outgoing shipments, including tracking numbers, delivery dates, and recipient information.
  • Update digital databases and management systems with shipment details.


Forklift Operations and Certification


  • Hold a valid forklift certification and operate forklifts safely and proficiently.
  • Conduct routine checks and maintenance on forklifts to ensure their proper functioning.
  • Use forklifts to load and unload palletized goods from trucks and within the warehouse.


Customer Service


  • Maintain a professional and courteous demeanor when interacting with customers, addressing concerns, and resolving issues promptly.
  • Strive to meet or exceed customer expectations by ensuring timely and accurate deliveries.


Regulatory Compliance and Safety


  • Ensure compliance with transportation regulations, safety standards, and industry best practices.
  • Promote a culture of safety among drivers and warehouse personnel. Emphasizing safe loading, unloading, and transportation practices.


Class A License (Preferred)


  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to handle high-stress situations
  • Basic knowledge and proper use of the English language, including reading, writing, and oral communications, strong communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Minimum 1-2 years of dispatching experience in a logistics or transportation setting
  • Ideal 3- 5 years of dispatching experience in a logistics or transportation setting
  • Basic knowledge of local geography to learn most efficient routes and to determine alternate routes when needed
  • Proficiency in using dispatch software
  • Possess a Class A commercial driver's license (CDL) for operating larger vehicles, which can be beneficial for emergency situations or backup driving roles.
  • Use Class A license to transport goods when necessary, adhering to traffic laws and safety guidelines.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and other relevant software applications. Basic knowledge of business/office equipment (e.g., photocopy machine, simple calculator) and practices (e.g., basic business communications, including writing brief notes)
  • Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance of the job would qualify. A high school diploma (or equivalent) is preferred.
  • Familiarity with transportation regulations
  • Ability to effectively give oral and written instruction and information in one-on-one and small group situations to employees, customers, vendors and other employees of the organization.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
