Full Time On-site position (Arlington, VA).Situational Telework available depending on mission needs. This position will be filled as a term position using DARPA’s Personnel Management Authority. This is not a general schedule (GS) position.

Due to the direct relationship to critical national security activities, U.S. citizenship is required for the position, and candidates must be able to qualify for and maintain a TOP SECRET SCI security clearance.

DARPA is seeking a Director for our Security and Intelligence Directorate (SID).The SID Director is the leader of the comprehensive security infrastructure for the Agency, including program protection of our research and development activities, oversight of our special access program control office, counter-intelligence, physical security, and continuity of operations.DARPA’s security professionals have a unique relationship with our world-leading technical program managers, creatively partnering with them to enable the speed and flexibility that defines the DARPA model while ensuring the safeguarding of our critical information. The DARPA Director has original classification authority, and our security teams often define the security approaches for emerging technologies across all levels of classification. The SID Director must set the standard by defining the innovative policies and empowered culture for the Agency and our security team, while ensuring that we maintain absolute confidence from our security partners throughout the broader Department of Defense.

DARPA’s Mission

As the primary innovation engine for the Department of Defense, DARPA undertakes projects that often revolutionize entire fields of science and engineering. For more than 65 years, DARPA has been the gold standard for high-impact innovation in pursuit of its mission to prevent the technological surprise of the United States, and creating surprise for our competitors. We do this by daring to create technologies perceived to go beyond the possible, accepting that we’ll often fail, but occasionally succeeding in ways that change the world.

The DARPA model depends foremost on our ability to attract the nation’s best and brightest innovators who have that rare combination of insight and boldness necessary to challenge everything. This applies equally to our technical program managers who define DARPA’s technology bets, and to our supporting team of subject matter experts whose mastery allows us to creatively find the new approaches and models on which our programs depend.

DARPA does not have in-house labs – all of our research happens within the tailored networks we create spanning small and large businesses, academic institutions, government labs, and military services. While much of our work is classified, we must still identify the best ideas from all sources and efficiently operate across these broad ecosystems.

Responsibilities

We are looking for candidates who have broad experience leading security functions for companies, Government organizations, and/or other innovation entities. A strong independent point of view on how security can and should be managed is required, along with the deep technical expertise with existing policies and practices to disrupt the system without breaking it. The ideal candidate will have:

· Ideas for bringing flexibility and creativity to the role – facilitating new ways of doing business within DARPA and the broader DoD Enterprise.

·Demonstrated innovative and creative thinking to solve unique security challenges.

·Public and/or private sector executive experience in defining and executing complex program protection strategies.

·Strong leadership and collaboration skills to maintain internal and external alignment with the security and intelligence enterprise vision.

·Extensive networks across top experts within other government agencies, private industry, and academia.

·Experience operating within enterprises at a scale similar to DARPA.
