Job Description
The Director of Special Education is part of the administrative leadership team and oversees special education services for students aged 3-21 for the Rivendell Interstate School District. The Director of Special Education is responsible for coordinating an effective and efficient system of special education services designed to meet the needs of eligible students, and effectively integrate students in the least restrictive environment. JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • Mentor and support special educators and related service providers and staff
  • Support building based administrators in shared supervision and evaluation of special education staff
  • Oversee in-district alternative day programs
  • Communicate effectively with parents and engage families to help meet the educational needs of the student
  • Research, coordinate and effectively utilize available school and community resources and outside agencies to ensure proper delivery of students IEP
  • Develop and oversee special education budgets, including grant funds
  • Provide oversight to the Medicaid program and Early Childhood Special Education programs
  • Coordinate regional programs and oversee alternative placements
  • Responsible for hiring of special educators, and other staff related to special education services
  • Ensure guidelines developed by the Vermont Agency of Education in its most current edition of the Vermont Special Education Procedures and Practices Manual regarding special education issues and New Hampshire Special Education Procedural Safeguards Handbook are implemented.
  • Prepare required reports in accordance with the Vermont Agency of Education guidelines
  • Oversee extended school year programs
