Director Of Sourcing And Development

Moon Juice is seeking a leader to join our Supply Chain and Operations team as the Director of Sourcing and Development. Reporting to the Vice President of Supply Chain, this role will oversee new product development and re-formulations, packaging development, domestic and international regulatory, quality assurance processes, and the strategic sourcing of suppliers for all finished goods, components, and packaging.

The Director of Sourcing and Development is a critical role at a time of exciting transformation and growth for the brand. The ideal candidate is highly process-oriented with an exceptional ability to juggle and prioritize numerous projects and details simultaneously. The successful candidate will create best-in-class operational effectiveness in how Moon Juice brings new and existing products to market. . This person will drive improvements in sourcing, costing, and product quality to create a solid foundation for Moon Juice to accelerate growth at a global scale.

Moon Juice HQ is based in Venice, California and requires in-office collaboration 1 – 2 days per week.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the supplier matrix

· Evaluate strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats in our current supply chain.

· Develop and execute a strategy that improves business continuity planning, costing, lead time, and quality in accordance with our commitment to responsible sourcing practices.

· Identify and onboard new suppliers and manufacturers. Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts.

· Dual source current products and transition existing production to new manufacturers as needed.

· Partner with the Director of Supply Planning and Procurement to monitor and improve supplier performance and relationships.

• Oversee product development and ingredient sourcing

· Partner closely with our brand founder and PD Manager to guide and support product innovation, re-formulations, and ingredient initiatives that align with our mission to bring the best available source, dose, and form to market in our supplements and skincare.

· Help explore and facilitate relationships with ingredient suppliers and ensure they meet our standards for clean, high-quality, sustainable, and ethically sourced ingredients.

· Partner cross-functionally to establish and systemize a PD process that enables effective collaboration between Development, Procurement, Ops, Creative, and Marketing and ensures smooth and on-time product launches. Create the necessary tools to help facilitate the process.

· Research international regulatory requirements in supplements and health products and contribute to formulation decisions. Ensure all new products meet domestic standards for regulatory, quality, and safety.

• Own packaging development

· Research new packaging designs, formats, and materials. Partner closely with our brand founder, creative and marketing teams, and packaging suppliers to sample, develop, cost, and approve new packaging items.

· Stay abreast of innovation in sustainable packaging materials and practices and continuously improve our approach to respectful packaging.

· Establish a development process that ensures consistency in design and quality execution across suppliers.

• Continuously improve Moon Juice’s quality assurance program

· Evaluate, enhance, and maintain our QA processes.

· Provide training and education to internal teams and external partners as needed.

· Ensure all new ingredients, suppliers, and manufacturers are compliant with our processes and standards.

· Partner with the Director of Supply Planning and Procurement as needed to support audits, testing, and certification, and to help resolve any quality-related issues.

• Team Leadership

· Serve as a role model and reliable partner for a high-performing team of supply chain professionals.

· Foster a collaborative, supportive, and innovative work environment, and help others succeed.

· Provide mentorship and professional development to one direct report.

Core Skills and Qualifications

• Exceptional attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and a knack for planning and prioritization.
• Minimum 8 years of experience in sourcing and development within the Vitamins, Minerals, and Supplements industry, with at least 3 years of experience as a people manager.
• Demonstrated track record of successfully bringing new products to market for a DTC business.
• Passion for wellness and sustainability is a plus.
• Experience with project management tools such as Asana.
• Ability to be flexible in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
• Familiarity with domestic and international regulatory requirements for VMS products.
• Experience driving continuous improvements to meet the needs of a high-growth business.
