Who We Are Looking For
We are looking for a Director of Safety and Security to oversee our School Security division at a client’s site in Washington D.C. The Director of Safety and Security assists the district with its mission to provide the highest quality of education by providing for the safety and security of all students, staff, and property. The Director of Safety and Security develops programs and provides services which will promote a safe and orderly environment for all students to ensure the School’s Promise of a Culture of Equity, Excellence, and Proficiency to empower all students to realize their full potential and lead fulfilling lives as lifelong learners, responsible citizens, and leaders in the 21st Century.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Schedule and leadschool required drills- Lockdown, Emergency Evacuation, and Severe Weather Drills
  • Assist with Threat Assessments of Students, Staff and Faculty
  • Manage Towing services
  • Be on-call 24/7 to respond to and/or coordinate safety and security emergencies, including weather related events
  • Complete/Update District of Columbia Fire and Drill log for the school
  • Performs other duties and assumes other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Divisional and/or Regional Security Director
  • Conduct Security Assessments at both the Maryland and DC campuses
  • Serves as the school’s liaison to the local Police Department, Fire Department, and other law enforcement and emergency management related agencies
  • Supervise all Campus Safety Officers (CSO’s)
  • Investigate employee complaints
  • Create and present Safety presentation to AT, Faculty, staff and students
  • Advises architectural design teams for construction and renovation projects relative to school safety
  • Manage portable radio equipment, dispatch console and software, card access and access levels, cameras, software, and video footage
  • Serve as subject-matter expert on security and crime related issues and maintain best practice information relative to safety and security
  • Adheres to federal statutes and regulations, school law, Board of Education rules and regulations, School Committee policies and procedures, and contractual obligations; and
  • Displays the highest ethical and professional behavior in working with students, parents, school personnel, and outside agencies associated with the schools
  • Attend weekly meetings with Head of School,, Operations Team, and Facilities Team
  • Oversees and coordinated the “no trespass” notifications for the school
  • Update and develop schools Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) that would help direct emergency responses
  • Act as a consultant for the Head of School
  • Lead Investigations of criminal or other internal matters
  • Create and present Safety presentations to parents-both campuses
  • Design and manage panic-buttons on campus
  • In collaboration with School administration, administers the Safety and Security budget to ensure safety and security in the school and by the most cost-effective utilization of resources.
  • Serve as Incident Command for all emergencies
  • Create and present Presentations to the Board Trustees and FISC committee
  • Create and issue department policies
  • Provide safety and security presentations for Summer Program staff.
  • Manage and approve invoices for off-duty police assigned to Sidwell
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
  • Be able to work with police and safety personnel as well as school district staff; be team oriented while capable of working independently; and demonstrate the ability to work effectively with administrators, teachers, staff, and parents in a diverse school community.
  • Have knowledge of school law, DESE regulations, and school policy and procedures.
  • Have at least five (5) years of relevant experience, in safety and/or security required in a school environment, preferably a tuition-charging private or public school within an urban district.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Hazmat training preferred.
  • Experience using and managing video recording and camera systems.
  • Experience using and managing access control systems.
  • Experience developing and managing budgets.
  • Be available for rapid response in emergency, crisis, or weather-related situations.
  • Have extensive work with law enforcement agencies.
  • At least three (3) years supervisory experience, including assigning, managing, and evaluating staff required.
  • Experience using and managing building entry and visitor management systems.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with time sensitive deadlines.
  • Exhibit a personality that demonstrates interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents and the community.
  • Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills and exhibit strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrate high integrity and an exceptional work ethic.
  • Hold and maintain a valid driver’s license with no serious violations.
  • Outstanding organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Master’s degree
  • Demonstrate skills in planning, research, and management.
  • Be able to plan and present information to a variety of audiences.
  • Have excellent integrity and demonstrate good moral character and initiative.
  • At least three (3) years recent successful leadership or administrator experience in field relevant to the position required

Salary Range: $125k-$135k (can be increased dependent upon education, experience, licenses, and certifications)
