Job Description
POSITION: Director of Purchasing
DEPARTMENT: Purchasing/ Warehouse
REPORTS TO: General Manager
FLSA STATUS: Salaried-Exempt; $80-$90k annually
SAVOR…Chicago, the leading food service provider located at McCormick Place Convention Center has an excellent and immediate opening for a Director of Purchasing for its Purchasing Department.
Position Summary
Manage, coordinate, and communicate activities of the purchasing department with other departments. Adhere to the ethical standard of purchasing and ensure that the company gets the best product, service and price while establishing appropriate controls to maximize business results. Maintain professional rapport with vendors.
Major Responsibilities
Not limited to:
  • Manage Union and Non-Union employees as applicable in Kitchen, Recycling Areas, and Warehouse. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Directly responsible for counting and ensuring correct cost attribution on all products in F&B inventory, including pre-show and month-end inventories.
  • To maintain low product cost, must use bids for current pricing, quality and quantities.
  • Review sales orders for product and ordering information.
  • Develop strategy with respective directors as to changes in market conditions, prices, products in season, etc.
  • Responsible for the operational strategy related to issuing, receiving and proper storage of all F&B products and inventory.
  • Responsible for establishing warehouse processes and systems to ensure minimal shrink.
  • Responsible for the supervision of the Warehouse & Purchasing Management team, purchasing assistants, F&B recycling staff and warehouse employees.
  • Partner with Executive Chef to ensure par levels are met for all shows.
  • Establish and enforce company and industry sanitation and safety standards.
  • Implement systems related to the flow of purchases from needs analysis to invoice payment.
  • Continued development of materials control software and related systems.
  • Constant contact with Chef, Sales Department, Accounting, and Operations regarding purchases for all events.
Education And/or Experience
  • Possess good written and verbal communications skills – must be able to influence results with colleagues, vendors, and employees in a positive manner while working in a cross-functional environment.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to calculate skills and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Union Experience a plus
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Previous Food and Beverage Managerial experience.
  • Ability to work all shifts including nights, weekends and holidays.
  • MS Word, MS Excel, POS Proficient, Micros proficient along with professional F & B purchasing software.
  • Minimum four years college degree. (preferred)
