Job Summary


The Director of Public Relations is responsible for all Sorenson corporate and departmental strategic messaging and communication and, upon request, other Sorenson companies. This includes external corporate and departmental content creation, oversight, writing and editorial review responsibilities as well as providing support and assistance with the execution of messaging for crisis communication and leading internal public relations campaigns.


The director of public relations is responsible for the creation and administration – or overseeing agency support – for all press campaigns and tactics for Sorenson business lines and for cultivating relationships with key local and national press as well as trade press editors and industry analysts to build market awareness.


This position is highly collaborative and works synergistically with the marketing team. The director demonstrates a willingness to understand, connect, engage, communicate and collaborate with Sorenson’s diverse community cultures, languages, experiences, and individual expertise.


Essential Duties And Responsibilities


  • Communicates the impact of all press relation tactics to the marketing team and management teams within Sorenson
  • Constructs and supports multiple product pitches, identifies strong targets/communities, builds relationships with targets and secures qualitative and quantitative media coverage for several different business lines
  • Fulfills the role of the corporate representative who provides communication to the press
  • Plans, writes and edits all public communication documents, including general data and fact sheets, press releases, and customer stories
  • Other duties as assigned


Supervisory Responsibility


This position manages employees and is responsible for the performance management and hiring of the employees.


Travel Requirements


Travel Requirements: Less than 25%


Education


Minimum: 4 Year / Bachelors Degree in public relations, communications, marketing, English, or a related field. (Marketing-related degree is preferred.)


Experience


Minimum Years of Experience: 10 years experience in journalism, technical writing, or professional editing and/or a minimum five to seven years professional experience, preferably in a corporate or public relations agency environment.


Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities


  • Highly organized
  • Proficiency in grammar and experience in various styles of writing
  • Knowledge of Deaf history and culture and best business practices.
  • Ability to multitask and work effectively within several distinct departments
  • Strong work ethic
  • Ability to manage a variety of tasks effectively while working efficiently under multiple deadlines
  • Proven media relations experience
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Computer proficient (includes: MS Office and Outlook)


Working Conditions And Physical Requirements


  • Positive attitude, team player, good interpersonal communication skills and ability to work across company departments.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, tools, and to handle other computer components
  • Ability to sit and/or stand at a desk and work with a computer for extended periods of time.
