Director Of Project Controls

Venteon is currently seeking an experienced Director, Project Controls to fill an opening with a rapidly growing construction company based in Oakland County.

Requirements of the Director, Project Controls

• Familiarity with ERP systems and an understanding of GAAP accounting principles
• MBA is preferred.
• State Licensed CPA preferred.
• Knowledge of percentage of completion accounting is required.
• Experience within construction industry is required; experience with property restoration is plus
• Must be a self-starter, with excellent interpersonal and communications skills
• 10 years of increasing accounting responsibilities with prior project controls/cost management
• Ability to collaborate with various teams across multiple departments
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance

Responsibilities of the Director, Project Controls

• Understand how labor, material, consumables and equipment costs are posted to a job, including scheduled rates vs. direct billings.
• Understanding of percentage of completion accounting, job costing and relevant project accounting controls.
• Suggest improvements in internal processes to drive efficiency and accuracy.
• Understand construction contracts and specific billing rates by job classifications.
• Primary lead for oversight of the month-end close process for recognizing revenues and expense on projects.
• Ensure accurate and time billing to clients, including invoices and associated detailed paperwork.
• Review processes and procedures for improvement and efficiency including software applications and automation.
• Review monthly project financial reports in accordance with GAAP accounting principles, including WIP management.
• Lead improvements in the project management system and coordinate data transfer and reporting to the Company’s accounting/ERP system as well as other related software programs.
• Work across departments to coordinate initiatives and meet deadlines.
• Review and analyze job costs, including committed costs and communicate with subcontractors and vendors for timely submission of invoices.
• Organize job files for auditing purposes, including employee reimbursable expenses.
• Assist the CFO with special projects as needed.
• Supervise and develop the project controls accounting team.
• Ability to analyze estimated revenues and profitability on a specific job as well as trends across jobs based on various job attributes, metrics and trends.
