Job Overview

Anne Arundel County-based nonprofit focused on improving access to free, nutritious food to under-resourced residents seeks an experienced and innovative nonprofit professional to guide its organizational programs and strategically collaborate across the county with partners to ensure a holistic approach to alleviating food insecurity in Anne Arundel County. As the expert on food insecurity and food programming within Anne Arundel County, the Director of Programs will collaborate with the Chief Executive Officer and other organizational leaders on strategic priorities, enhance existing program initiatives, and work closely with community partners to identify solutions to address the root causes of food insecurity. This position will lead efforts to implement a Mobile Food Pantry program in the Summer of 2023, working closely with community-based partners to identify pantry distribution locations, as well as with staff to secure both dollars to operate the program and volunteers to support the pantry distributions.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead efforts to manage, support, and strengthen member agency and community partner relationships and capacity throughout Anne Arundel County. Work to deepen network capacity by recruiting and evaluating prospective new partnerships for their alignment with strategic goals and program needs.
  • Oversee all AACFB programs to build strategic programming and increase food distribution to under-resourced areas of Anne Arundel County.
  • Oversee compliance with all regulatory agencies, all food and occupational safety requirements, and all Feeding America contractual requirements, including staff training.
  • Work collaboratively with the CEO and Director of Development and External Relations to strategize organizational funding priorities, provide content as needed for grant proposal development, and create program budgets to support grant applications.
  • Participate in the development and oversight of strategic and tactical plans for further development of existing and future programs. Manage the implementation, review, and benchmarking of the AACFB’s strategic plan to ensure program progress is achieved.
  • Lead implementation of program logic model and use an analytical approach to consistently measure program performance. Oversee the collection and analysis of data to determine strategic food distribution goals and areas of unmet need.
  • Hire, develop, support, and manage Program Team members.Coach, counsel and invest in their development.
  • Develop, implement, and manage daily operations of the Mobile Pantry Program.

Education/Experience/Competencies

  • Skilled at establishing and cultivating strong relationships with community partners and other organizational supporters.
  • Critical and strategic thinker with demonstrated planning and implementing skills.
  • Strong conflict management skills and effective at working with others to reach common goals and objectives.
  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, or an equivalent field of study is required.
  • Excellent management skills, including the ability to effectively coach and mentor team members, collaborate and build relationships, plan/organize the work of a team, and leverage resources within the function and across the organization to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Established professional reputation with a record of integrity, sound judgment, and adherence to ethical standards.
  • At least five (5) years of experience in project management, program development, evaluation, strategic planning, and customer service, plus three (3) years of leadership experience is required.
  • Ability to work independently, self-manage, self-motivate, adapt quickly and regularly and work toward consistent, timely, and high-quality goal achievement.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office Suite at a high level of proficiency is required.
  • Nonprofit work experience in Anne Arundel County and the surrounding region is preferred.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Professional presence and public speaking competence for internal and external interactions.
  • Experience in workflow management and process improvement.
  • Robust ability to define problems, collect data, and establish solutions that are innovative and/or logical.
  • Mature, self-starter, confident, high attention to detail, socially and self-aware, and with a sense of humor.


Employment Type, Compensation, Benefits, Work Hours

  • Funds for Professional Development.
  • 12 Paid Holidays (plus a week off between Christmas and New Year’s).
  • Salary Range: $80,000 - $90,000, annually, pay commensurate with experience.
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance benefits are available.
  • Exempt; Full-Time.
  • Retirement benefits with employer match up to 3%.
  • 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Monday – Friday with some evening and weekend work required.

For 37 years, our countywide food bank has served our Anne Arundel County neighbors in need by supplying free food and basic necessities to pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, schools, and other on-site feeding programs throughout the county. The AACFB currently partners with 80 agencies across 114 unique locations throughout Anne Arundel County to distribute food and other essential resources to residents experiencing food insecurity.
