Operating entirely on revenue from game sales, rather than tax dollars, the Virginia Lottery generates more than $2.0 million per day for Virginia’s K-12 public schools. The Virginia Lottery also licenses and regulates casino gaming and mobile sports betting.
The Virginia Lottery, an independent state agency, is currently seeking a Director of Marketing to join its Executive Leadership team. This position is responsible for generating sales each year through successful research, product development, portfolio expansion, marketing, and customer experience of Lottery products.
The Director of Marketing will:
- Foster relationships both internal and external to the department to identify demand for resources and deliver products and services responsibly, to meet the changing expectations of customers and maximize responsible revenues.
- Provide visionary leadership and managerial guidance to the Marketing Department to support the Lottery’s business policies, practices, strategies, and goals.
- Establish strategic goals to meet the business priorities of the lottery, to responsibly grow playership and overall profits for the Commonwealth.
- Be accountable for the delivery of programs and products to sustain and grow the overall business enterprise, including product planning and execution, advertising and promotional support, the overall customer experience, and effective coordination and synergy with the teams that support and deliver these products and services. These responsibilities include budget planning and execution, project oversight, responsibility for critical decisions and priorities, and meeting overall business metrics and outcomes.
Minimum Qualifications
- Current knowledge and experience with marketing, digital, and web development industry best practices and trends is essential.
- Proven track record of successfully managing strategic partnerships, helping the team to achieve and surpass business goals.
- Ability to influence, lead and coach strategic and operational teams and individuals in a collaborative and agile environment.
- Considerable experience in successfully managing large complex contracts and third-party vendors.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, finance, information systems or computer science, or other related field.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, develop and direct both short- and long-term comprehensive Lottery advertising and gaming programs.
- Six to eight years of progressively responsible and successful management or leadership experience within a business operation (preferably Marketing) to include personnel and financial management, negotiating agreements, and management of vendor relations.
- Extensive knowledge of the principles, practices and theory of marketing, advertising, digital engagement, customer acquisition and retention, product development, internal and external communications, research, statistics, sales and distribution, and the policies and procedures governing their application.
- Relevant experience Lottery and/or gaming.
Preferred Qualifications
- Considerable experience as a member of an executive management team.
- Master's degree in business, marketing, finance, information systems or computer science, or other related field.
