Job Description

Director of Manufacturing Operations:

The successful candidate will have a broad background in overseeing and managing manufacturing operations in a low to mid-volume industrial environment. This individual will be active not only in strategic and operational planning for the future growth of the business, but also in the immediate tactical issues of production problem-solving, customer service excellence, and operational profit. This position requires a strong ability to communicate across all plant operations and functions including Sales, Engineering, Customer Service, Project Management, and Supply Chain. This facility is under $50 million and experience running a manufacturing operation of a similar size is preferred.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


● Possess strong leadership and management capabilities to focus on operational excellence, overseeing the implementation of improvements in quality, safety, and productivity through lean manufacturing and materials management principles.

● Lead all operational efforts to improve systems and processes that increase productivity, maximize profitability, and support strategic growth.

● Drive strategy and activities related to SIOP, Demand Management, Procurement Management, and Materials Management inclusive of operating in an environment that ranges from engineer to order to configure to order to make to stock.

● Directs the operational organization, including manufacturing, assembly, supply chain, logistics, safety, and quality for maximum efficiencies of equipment, materials, and personnel.

● Manage production operations, schedules, workloads, staffing levels, and machine utilizations, to achieve the required production outputs and service levels for the Company's products.

● Coordinate with the General Manager, Accounting, and Finance in accordance with monthly, quarterly, and annual business plans and activities.

● Interface with the team to implement new production lines or modify existing lines and processes for new products or product revisions, capacity changes, production or quality improvements, etc.

● Interact with our commercial business partners and customers alike to understand market and industry needs, customer requirements, quality, and service expectations, and ensure our operations are meeting all external needs.

● Oversee and monitor the budget for manufacturing operations, including capital expenditures, labor, headcount, and supply chain costs.

● Implement a safety culture and implement safety initiatives that drive the organization to achieve the goal of zero accidents.

● Determine current and future operational opportunities that will support new technologies and long-term growth.

● Maintain customer, market, and product knowledge, understanding and preparing operations for product line changes as required to meet customer and market needs.


QUALIFICATIONS


● A minimum of 8 years of leadership experience in manufacturing operations.

● A college degree is required with a technical major preferred. BSME, BSMfgE or BSIE or is a strong plus.

● A successful track record of achieving growth and profitability targets for multiple manufacturing sites.

● Definitive experience in single-piece flow systems, or focused work teams, lean, 6 Sigma, 5S, and other continuous improvement programs would be a plus.

● Hands-on experience utilizing lean manufacturing principles for continuous process improvements which drive productivity and profitability (e.g. SPC, Six Sigma, Totally Quality Management, Lean Manufacturing, or ISO processes).

● Strong financial acumen, solid quantitative analytical skills, and an ability to write capital requests and analyze operating reports to identify opportunities; the ability to summarize monthly operating results and future plans with executive teams and others and collaborate with the supply chain for maximum cost reduction.

● The ability to maintain relationships with customers and partners, and communicate across all levels of the organization, from the shop floor to members of the leadership team.

● Exhibits a high level of drive, integrity, and energy, a change agent that motivates and inspires others with a drive for innovation.

● Demonstrated strategic planning skills, strong leadership skills with a strategic mindset, encouraging others to do the same. The strategic and visionary leadership skills to maintain a long-term focus and the tenacity to achieve results.

● The ability to build and energize a strong positive team environment; identify, attract, and retain talent -- assess existing talent, assemble and build a team when/where required.
