LOCATION:Oak Park, MI (On-site); minimal remote work

Position Overview:As the Director of Logistics at Forgotten Harvest you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective day-to-day operation of the warehouse and transportation as well as facility management.Your primary responsibility will be to oversee the entire logistics process, from receiving and storing rescued grocery products to coordinating the distribution of food to various community organizations.As a non-profit focused on feeding people, your leadership will directly impact the lives of those facing food insecurity.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Warehousing Management:

  • Supervise warehouse staff and volunteers in day-to-day operations, ensuring a safe, clean, and organized working environment.
  • Create, implement, and optimize warehouse processes to enhance efficiency and reduce waste using a continuous improvement focused lean management framework.
  • Oversee the receiving, sorting and inventory management of rescued, USDA and other donated food products.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure verification of inventory through physical inventory and/or cycle counts.
  • Develop goals, performance metrics and management best practices for supply chain. Mentor team members in the creation and implementation of metrics to achieve process improvement.

Transportation Management:

  • Oversee compliance with all regulatory agencies includingDOT and CFR Regulations for fleet and staff. USDOT, MDOT, and FMCSA.
  • Oversee daily optimization of inbound and outbound routes to minimize transport & labor costs.
  • Oversee the use of any outside carriers and volunteers who make pickup/deliveries.
  • Work closely with partner organizations and community agencies to coordinate food deliveries according to their needs and schedules.
  • Oversee a 3PL responsible for preventative maintenance of fleet vehicles.
  • Support implementation and full functional use of new TMS software.
  • Oversee the transportation function including a private fleet and driver workforce, as well as support best practices to ensure timely and safe deliveries to partner organizations.
  • Monitor fuel consumption and implement strategies to improve fleet efficiency.

Facility Management, Compliance and Safety:

  • Create and foster a Safety-First culture within the organization.
  • Ensure that all standards are met in accordance with:
  • Develop and maintain preventative maintenance and replacement plans.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations pertaining to warehouse and transportation operations.
  • Guide and enforce safety protocols to protect employees, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Oversee maintenance of building, grounds, equipment, machinery, HVAC, refrigeration systems, vehicles, and pest management program.

Budget Management:

  • Responsible for ongoing review of costs and forecasts to determine organizational progress towards mission and strategic plan objectives.
  • Manage the logistics budget, ensuring cost-effective operations while maintaining service excellence.

Data Analysis and Reporting:

  • Utilize data analytics to monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and identify areas for improvement in all logistics operations.
  • Generate regular reports to assess progress and present findings to the leadership team.

Leadership:

  • Encourage and coach the workflows and performance of direct reports and make recruiting and staffing decisions.
  • Collaborate with Executive Leadership to create and fulfill annual organizational goals and objectives in alignment with the Forgotten Harvest strategic plan.
  • Collaborate on new program initiatives, planning, and decision-making, keeping in mind Forgotten Harvest goals and objectives; Help identify new opportunities and priorities without mission creep.
  • Represent Forgotten Harvest during community projects and participate in meetings and committees as appropriate.
  • Interact with Feeding America (and various regional or sub-regional food bank and food rescue organizations) to enhance and further Forgotten Harvest’s work to fight hunger locally, while working cooperatively with other food banks in the national network.
  • Provide counseling/coaching to ensure successful performance, and utilizes performance management processes as necessary, including use of proper documentation.
  • Encourage and track staff development and employee professional growth.
  • Partner with HR Director and operations team members to identify and remedy safety concerns and champion positive safety practices.
  • Conduct performance reviews on a timely basis in compliance with Forgotten Harvest policy.
  • As the leader of the logistics teams, advocate for efficiency while considering effectiveness and contribution to achievement of overall mission ofForgotten Harvest.
  • Evaluate and implement safety, equipment and other training needs of transportation and distribution center staff.
  • Perform all duties and maintain all standards in accordance with Forgotten Harvest’s policies and procedures.
  • Provide relevant operations reports to CEO and/or others regularly and/or as needed.
