Job Description

BASIC FUNCTION:

To help provide the Omya North America's group with practical geologic information in order to effectively develop and utilize existing mineral resources and target, evaluate, acquire, permit and develop potential mineral resources for the future.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide operations with annual extraction plan based on production and sales forecasts. Ultimately develop and update a five-year quarry plan.
  • Direct communication with OMYA lab regarding analysis of plant feeds, competitor samples and prospect samples as well as establishing mineralogy database.
  • Assist in the geologic evaluation of ore deposits and quarries as part of a due diligence.
  • Maintain positive public relations with property owners, both directly (leased land) and indirectly (neighbors) involved with operations by demonstrating responsiveness to inquiries and concerns.
  • Maintain permits through the continued implementation of permit conditions.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of exploration programs involving literature review, geologic mapping, core/trac drilling, trenching, and sampling.
  • Direct communication with purchasing department regarding core drilling, equipment, development, and contracting costs.
  • Maintain and update documentation on existing and potential ore sources for PSI markets including those of competitive companies.
  • Assist in the design and development of quarry-mine and reclamation plans which are required to obtain and maintain local, state, and federal permits as well as maintain well developed and cost-effective operations.
  • Direct communications with cost accounting department regarding quarry costs, budgeting and paying bills.
  • Monitor and control quarry production and blending of ore based on plant requirements in order to provide plants with a consistent quality feed as well as utilize the ore reserve to its maximum potential by minimizing waste.
  • Calculate and update ore reserves (proven in place and recoverable as well as probable) based on detailed geologic mapping, core/trac-drilling program and quarry-mine development plan.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationship with local, state, and federal government officials in obtaining permits.
  • Direct quarry-mine development and reclamation plan to ensure a safe, economical, and environmentally sound operation.
  • Obtain necessary local, state and federal permits as the result of preparing and submitting applications, organizing and leading site visits and participating in public hearings.
  • Maintain strong communication with plant/production managers, quarry-mine superintendents, and contractors to effectively develop quarries and fulfill plant requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree preferably in Geology. Master’s degree highly preferred. Minimum 10 years of experience in quarrying and exploring for industrial minerals.

SURPAC mine planning software, ArcGIS software. Very high skills in use of IT applications (Geo software, Surpac, MS office, Mine planning software).
Ability to find solutions and achieve objectives and drive to completion. Ability or experience to manage projects and motivate operations team.

Ability to combine big picture with detail required to progress. Excellent organizational and planning skill. High level communication skills. Proactive problem solver.

Must be willing to travel up to 30% domestic and international.
