JOB TITLE: Director of Elementary Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment
REPORTS TO: Superintendent of Schools
EMPLOYMENT AND FLSA STATUS: Exempt/Salary
POSITION PURPOSE: The Director of Elementary Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment will act under the general direction of the Superintendent to provide leadership in planning, developing, implementing, sustaining, and evaluating the district's elementary programming that supports our learners' academic needs.
Essential Job Functions
  • Facilitate the transition from preschool programs to our Kindergarten program.
  • Provide leadership, professional development, and expertise in the Science of Reading.
  • Collaborate with other members of the executive leadership team to ensure there is a comprehensive vertical and horizontal alignment of the Pre K-12 program.
  • Continually work with the superintendent and elementary principals to ensure that the corporation's formal and informal curriculum are aligned to the Indiana Department of Education's expectations and the expectations of the local board of school trustees.
  • Collaborate with building and district leadership on human resource issues including recruitment and retention of staff
  • Provide input on evaluations of building principals and other elementary program leaders.
  • Assist and support principals in their efforts to improve teaching and learning processes at each buildingUse various advisory groups of teachers, parents, administrators, and community representatives to gather input relating to curriculum, instruction and assessment.
  • Assist the superintendent, board of school trustees, and other members of the executive leadership team in identifying and establishing corporation goals and objectives and in developing strategies and feasibility plans to ensure the achievement of the Greenfield-Central Community School Corporation mission.
  • Identify, apply for, and utilize all available government and other external fiscal resources to improve curriculum and instruction.
  • Coordinate the district's remediation program for students in grades K - 6.
  • Maintain records and control of budgets and expenditures related to special curriculum department projects and external grants.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the superintendent
  • Plan, coordinate, and administer staff development activities for instructional personnel and administrators (modeling effective instructional strategies).
  • Provide coaching and mentoring for building level administrators for the successful implementation of building and district initiatives and navigation of leadership challenges (climate, personnel, teacher evaluation, student/parent issues) .
  • Coordinate the district's elementary summer programming with the principals.
  • Assess the elementary program and provide guidance, support, and professional development opportunities to grow the elementary staff.
  • Provide leadership for assessment and evaluation, including standardized testing, criterion referenced testing, and alternative assessment efforts.
  • Organize and supervise the textbook adoption process for all subject areas, and oversee fee setting and textbook ordering. This includes the selection of web-based curriculum, remediation and enrichment programs.
  • Perform the duties of the Corporation Testing Coordinator.
  • Provide direct supervision for the implementation of a systemic Multi Tiered System of Support Framework for grades K-6 (including alternative education learning opportunities) in collaboration with the Director of Student Services and the Director of Secondary Teaching and Learning.
  • Lead, attend and provide feedback within the Professional Learning Community (PLC) settings and regularly visit classrooms in the primary and intermediate school settings.
  • Serve as an active advocate for Greenfield-Central Schools in all matters relevant to corporation interests.
  • Assist teachers and administrators, through consultation, collaboration and coaching, with the implementation of effective instructional strategies and interventions that increase student achievement.
  • Oversee the alignment of corporation systems, including, but not limited to, English Language Learners, and High Ability programming in the K-6 setting.
  • Work closely with the superintendent, business office, and the Indiana Department of Education's staff responsible for overseeing state and federal grants.
  • Coordinate the processes for teacher awards and honors.
  • Provide direct support and mentorship to instructional coaches and building level administrators to improve learning outcomes.
  • Work closely with the Indiana Department of Education in matters of state assessment, including, but not limited to ILEARN, IREAD, IAM, and NWEA.
  • Attend school and community functions as an ambassador for Greenfield-Central Schools.
  • Direct the formulation and revision of curriculum maps, quarterly assessments, standards-based reporting, and other instructional materials produced for school district purposes.
  • Provide leadership in all matters of curriculum, instruction and assessment that impact elementary students, teachers and administrators.
Qualifications
  • Ability to work with a team to accomplish corporation goals
  • Minimum of (3) years as a principal or instructional coach in an elementary school
  • Ability to deal with sensitive and confidential issues in a professional manner
  • Experience in successfully completing compliance activities for the State of Indiana
  • Experience in supporting leaders in an educational setting
  • Minimum of (3) years as a teacher in an elementary school
  • Ability to communicate effectively in various formats
  • Masters Degree in School Curriculum and/or School Administration
Preferences
  • Experience with high ability programming and English Language Learners.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices within the Science of Reading and an ability to implement the structures in our primary schools.
  • Teaching experience in multiple grade levels.
  • Relevant education and/or training beyond receipt of a masters degree.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to operate office equipment.
  • Ability to see for the purpose of reading laws and codes, rules and policies and other printed material.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels.
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs.
  • Ability to work at a desk, conference table or in meetings of various configurations.
  • Ability to communicate so others will be able to clearly understand a normal conversation.
  • Ability to carry 25 lbs.
  • Ability to reach in all directions.
