JOB DESCRIPTION


CLASSIFICATION: ADMINISTRATIVE

JOB TITLE: DIRECTOR OF COUNSELING AND SOCIAL SERVICES

REPORTS TO: EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF STUDENT PERSONALIZED LEARNING

SALARY: ADMINISTRATOR – GRADE 128


Job Goal

The Director of Counseling and Social Services develops, coordinates, and supervises the implementation of a comprehensive model towards academic, career and social emotional development through District-wide programming to reduce the achievement gap and create student outcomes directly supportive of site level goals.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Three years of experience in the field of counseling, social services or related field
  • Arizona administrative certification preferred
  • Successful leadership experience
  • Master's degree and Administrative Coursework in Related Field
  • Knowledge of standards and researched-based instruction
  • Counseling Certification preferred


Core Job Functions


District Responsibilities

  • Attend official district functions as the Superintendent may direct.
  • Perform in other areas of responsibility as assigned by the Superintendent.
  • Develop regulations, procedures and plans which reflect Board policy and provide maximum efficiency to support the educational program.
  • Make the most efficient utilization of resources available in providing a quality instructional benefit to all students. Respond to all correspondence in a timely manner and prepare and disseminate reports required by the Superintendent.
  • Serve as a member of the Superintendent’s general administrative team.
  • Monitor and approve expenditures of funds through the budget and other sources.
  • Serve on and chair committees at the discretion of the Superintendent.

Special Programs

  • Provide ongoing educational opportunities to parents and the community.??
  • Act as a liaison to community agencies to build partnerships in relation to counselors and social workers throughout the district.
  • Evaluate mental health resources and programs to make recommendations for continued improvement.
  • Provide resources and support to school administrators and staff to meet students’ social and emotional needs.
  • Plan and direct District-wide programs including but not limited to counseling/social work, crisis management, suicide prevention, social emotional programming, staff and student outcomes.


Professional Development

  • Equip administrators, teachers, and staff to identify and refer students for social or emotional support.
  • Recommend and provide professional staff development related to primary areas of responsibility.
  • Facilitate on-going improvement and data analysis of implemented programming for effectiveness and student outcomes.
  • Plan training to support counselors/social workers in evidence-based practices.
  • Attend meetings and conferences which promote professional growth and will benefit the district.
  • Mutually identify professional goals for individual staff members that will support development of quality skills and traits.
  • Keep current with evidence-based practices in your area and participate in state and national professional organizations.

Personnel/Leadership

  • Maintain required formal evaluation procedures for all staff under their supervision.
  • Effectively communicate with staff to keep them informed.
  • Maintain a close working relationship with school-based and District-level administrators to ensure information exchange, coordination of efforts and general support for the decision-making process.
  • Represent the District’s interests in state and national content area functions.


Business

  • Monitor and approve expenditures of funds allocated through the department budget and other sources.
  • Develop and coordinate grants in department subject areas as needed.
  • Uphold and honor all contractual agreements entered by the district offices and recommend additional contractual requirements to the Superintendent.
