Job Description

DIRECTOR OF ADMINISTRATION AND FINANCE, Materials Science and Engineering (DMSE), to serve as the senior operations administrator for the department. Will oversee all administrative and financial operations, including human resources, faculty affairs administration, finance, academic administration, events planning, facilities, communications, and research administration; ensure the department is staffed appropriately and that they are trained and have access to tools to carry out their work; promote a collaborative, inclusive, and respectful environment in which to work; ensure work is carried out properly by all staff; act as an information source, lead communicator, and liaison with the department head and other relevant offices/individuals about operational and functional needs, challenges, changes, and successes; and perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: bachelor's degree; at least seven years' experience in an executive or management position; demonstrated leadership skills and ability to promote team-building and facilitate consensus; experience supervising staff including recruitment and selection, managing performance, and training and professional development; good judgment, diplomacy, tact, and discretion with sensitive/confidential matters; excellent problem-solving, goal-setting, decision-making, analytical, organizational, project management, and written and oral communication skills; strong computer skills and experience with the latest financial and HR information systems and database software; and knowledge of financial and research administration in an academic or research environment with federal, corporate, and foundation sponsors. Must be able to effectively promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging; work effectively and collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students; manage conflicting and changing priorities; and develop, integrate, and operationalize new concepts, guidelines, and policies. PREFERRED: master's degree; MIT experience; and experience with SAP, Brio Query/Cognos, COEUS, and Roles Database. Job #23016-11

Hiring salary range: $113,000 - 165,000, depending on experience.

This is a hybrid position requiring an on-campus presence each week.
