POSITION SUMMARY:

The Laboratory Director is a self motivator with a minimum of 5 years experience in the clinical setting. The person must have a strong background in Microbiology and Laboratory Information Systems. The person must have compassion for patients and be able to strongly represent the hospital mission. The person must provide a clear vision for the clinical laboratory serving patients and clients providing medical laboratory diagnostic and therapeutic information, products and services. This will include directly managing the Microbiology Department and has a high level of information technology knowledge.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Laboratory Director is responsible for all clinical procedures including chemical, biological, immunological and bacteriological testing. The Laboratory Director must work independently and have a high level of training in the clinical laboratory setting with extensive experience in microbiology and laboratory information systems. The Laboratory Director maintains the overall performance of the laboratory including quality of results, timeliness of results, specimen integrity, and prompt resolution of missing and problem specimens. The person maintains a quality management plan, oversees document control, and monitors turn-around-times. The Laboratory Director performs personnel related functions such as hiring, discipline and evaluations. The person coordinates activities for accreditation, attends management meetings, and represents the clinical laboratory in multiple committees, participates in strategic planning and works on lean projects. The person creates and oversees the budget, capitol and performs monthly LMIP. The Laboratory Directory directly manages the Microbiology Department.

Education: Four year college (Bachelor’s Degree)

Experience: 5 – 10 years

Certification: MT (ASCP) - Required
