General Scope and Summary

SAGE Therapeutics is searching for a creative, resourceful, integrative thinker for an important role as Director, Investor Relations who will develop, implement, and manage SAGE’s investor relations strategy. The ideal candidate will create, plan, and execute comprehensive investor relations programs to effectively deliver corporate messages to key audiences in order to achieve SAGE’s corporate and strategic goals.

Responsibilities include interfacing with key corporate contacts; managing program initiatives and IR calendars; planning, coordinating, and executing financial reporting events and materials on a quarterly and annual basis; interacting with investors and research analysts; conducting media audits and research; triaging incoming investor/analyst requests; and participating in financial and industry conferences. The position will also plan, coordinate, and execute investor roadshows as well as investor/analyst events at industry and scientific meetings.

The Director, IR is expected to develop key communications strategies mainly addressing the investor community and shape cohesive communications plans as part of a cross-functional corporate communications team that includes Senior Management, Finance, and Legal.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Draft earnings announcement press releases, conference call scripts, and Q&As while supporting the development of other corporate press releases.
• Maintain fact sheets and IR sections of corporate websites.
• Develop key messaging and timing of communications for the investment community around key product and program milestones.
• Strategize, pitch, and coordinate participation in investor/banking/industry conferences.
• Conduct peer research, targeting, and quarterly updating of target lists.
• Support SEC filings and development of annual report.
• Partner with numerous functions in the company including Corporate Communications, Marketing, Medical Affairs, Patient Advocacy, Program Management, and Clinical Development to enable accurate and optimal creation, evolution, and delivery of key messages, and to ensure that investor communications are aligned with communications across all external audiences.
• Provide accurate, consistent, and timely responses to all external inquiries from investors and analysts.
• Prepare investor presentations and follow-up materials.
• Maintain active investor/analyst database of interactions with the financial community.
• Monitor industry-wide investor relations developments and provide guidance when necessary.
• Communicate frequently, proactively, and reactively with institutional investors, research analysts, and investment bankers.
• Manage SAGE’s investor outreach strategy and IR calendar, including coordination of roadshows, analyst interactions, and professional/scientific meeting interactions with Wall Street.

Experience, Education and Specialized Knowledge and Skills

Must thrive working in a fast-paced, innovative environment while remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful, and efficient. Must have excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to develop important relationships with key stakeholders, and the ability to identify issues and raise to key stakeholders in order to develop relevant and realistic plans, programs, and recommendations.

Basic Qualifications

• 7-10 years of relevant work experience in investor relations or finance with a demonstrated understanding of the biotechnology industry.
• Bachelor’s degree in business, investor relations, finance, or related major.

Preferred Qualifications

• Excitement about the vision and mission of Sage.
• Comfortable working with IR databases and research/benchmarking projects.
• Attention to detail and the ability to work individually, within a multi-disciplinary team, as well as with external partners and vendors.
• Experience and comfort interacting with investment bankers, institutional investors, and research analysts.
• Experience working with all levels of management and consulting with key business stakeholders. An ability to influence for greater outcomes.
• Public biotech company experience with commercialization.

Benefits and Compensation

The base salary hiring range for this position is $175,321 - $241,066.*

• This position is eligible to participate in the Company’s annual bonus plan; the bonus varies based on performance and is subject to the standard terms and conditions of the incentive program.
