ABOUT STANFORD UNIVERSITY AND RESIDENTIAL & DINING ENTERPRISES:

Residential & Dining Enterprises (R&DE), the largest auxiliary organization at Stanford University, supports the academic mission of the University by providing high-quality services to students and other members of the university community. The department has an annual operating budget of over $350M, operates 24/7/365, and oversees a $3B asset portfolio comprising a 7 million sq. ft. physical plant across the campus. In autumn quarter of the 2021-22 academic year, R&DE will return to providing housing for over 13,000 students and dependents, serving meals at 17 dining halls, 12 retail locations, and operating athletic concessions and conference operations. Additionally, R&DE comprises 900 FTE staff in the following divisions: Student Housing Operations, Stanford Dining, Stanford Hospitality & Auxiliaries, Stanford Conferences, Maintenance Operations and Capital Projects, and a team of R&DE strategic business partners: Finance & Administration, Information Technology, Human Resources, and Strategic Communications.

This role is currently designated as hybrid and may provide incumbents with flexibility for partial telecommuting.


JOB PURPOSE:

Define, establish, and oversee enterprise-wide operational functions and resources, including occupational health and safety program, access and security program, emergency preparedness and resiliency program, sustainability and utilities program, fleet and property administration, and technical training and development.


CORE DUTIES:

  • Emergency preparedness and resiliency plans and actions in support of a large residential campus
  • Conduct business and technical briefings for senior management while serving as an EHS specialization authority in one or more areas: representing and advocating for the university's position in an assigned area and/or specialty: working to develop a consensus position within a diverse, sometimes conflicting stakeholder climate (e.g., operational activities, external regulatory requirements).
  • Technical training and professional development activities in support of maintenance technical trades and other staff.
  • Alert senior management of legislative agendas and ramifications; develop appropriate strategy to address situation.
  • Lead and further diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging objectives and education across the enterprise and beyond.
  • Design, develop, and oversee implementation of the most complex environmental, health, and safety protection programs.

  • Maintain and control the financial budget related to units or departments.
  • Develop, implement, and oversee all activities related to the following functions and allocate appropriate staffing and other resources to achieve objectives including development and direction of related policy:
    • environmental and occupational health and safety functions
    • access and security functions for fall housing, dining, and hospitality facilities (mechanical key and electronic key controls and administration)
    • emergency preparedness and resiliency plans and actions in support of a large residential campus
    • sustainability and utility initiatives to meet campus goals for net-zero carbon footprint, landfill diversion, and other important green initiatives. Ongoing educational and outreach activities in support of objectives.
    • fleet management, capital property administration, and risk management (self-insured) claims recovery.
    • technical training and professional development activities in support of maintenance technical trades and other staff.

  • Provide leadership direction to management and professional personnel in the environmental, health, and safety functions and all other functions noted above, oversee subordinate managers with large program responsibility.
  • Participate and lead by example as a senior member of the maintenance operations and capital projects leadership team.
  • Sustainability and utility initiatives to meet campus goals for net-zero carbon footprint, landfill diversion, and other important green initiatives. Ongoing educational and outreach activities in support of objectives.
  • May represent the enterprise as the designated senior safety officer of an organization or specialization when mandated by regulatory requirements.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:


Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in arts/science in related allied/scientific field and seven years of related progressively responsible experience or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. Advanced degree and/or certification(s) may be required for some programs.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to manage subject matter experts in sustainability programs, emergency preparedness programs, and access and security programs.
  • Ability to interpret and apply regulations.
  • Ability to conduct environmental, health, and safety related risk assessment, mitigation, and crisis management.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to cultivate strong and collaborative relationships inside and outside the organization.
  • Ability to manage large environmental, health, and safety organizations, or a large professional service organization.
  • Ability to lead professionally in emergency/crisis situations.
  • Ability to function as a senior manager, with responsibility for developing and mentoring managers and senior professionals.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

  • Occasionally use a telephone, write by hand.
  • Ability to maintain a valid non-commercial California Driver's license.
  • Rarely kneel, crawl, climb ladders, reach/work above shoulder, twist/bend/stoop/squat, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, write by hand, sort and file paperwork or parts, operate foot and/or hand controls, carry, push, and pull objects that weigh 40 pounds or more.
  • Frequently stand, sit, and perform desk based computer tasks.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • May rarely be exposed to high voltage electricity, radiation or electromagnetic fields, lasers, noise > 80dB TWA, allergens/biohazards/chemicals /asbestos, or heavy metals
  • 10 feet.
  • Must wear personal protective equipment as defined/required by job assignments.

The expected pay range for this position is $180K to $195K per annum( $86.54-$93.75 / hour)
