Job Summary


Avantor is seeking an experienced Director, Ethics and Compliance Operations to assist the Head of Ethics and Compliance with the development and implementation of an enterprise ethics and compliance program. Director, Ethics and Compliance Operations will be responsible for the implementation of systems, programs, processes, and practices to support the Company’s compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, the Avantor Code of Ethics and Conduct, and other internal policies.  Director, Ethics and Compliance Operations will also provide a broad range of compliance support throughout Avantor’s organization, partnering with the business to sustain Avantor’s ethical and compliant culture and develop practical ways to uphold the legal, regulatory, and ethical obligations of a life sciences company.

Functional Responsibilities:

  • Assist with internal and external compliance and ethics program assessments.
  • Track and report results of compliance investigations and the corrective actions taken to Compliance leadership and other internal key stakeholders as needed. Interpret findings/trends and carry out corrective action and retraining as needed.
  • Monitor the business developments and industry compliance best practices to evolve the compliance program through ensuring appropriate practices, processes, systems and tools are in place and maintained to support the business at all times.
  • Direct and oversee a comprehensive compliance training program and communication strategy to U.S. employees and designated third parties on applicable compliance policies, laws and regulations, including any new developments or updates that may impact the Company's compliance program.
  • Be an ambassador for communication around key compliance topics, resources, and special initiatives.
  • Assessing organizational compliance risk in creating and updating a risk-based audit and monitoring plan. Partnering with the business to address detected noncompliance including recommending and taking corrective actions when needed.
  • Support the Legal Compliance steering committee, including through driving strategy development and planning, coordinating reporting and information flows, managing meeting agendas, and ensuring appropriate follow-up.
  • Assist Head of Ethics and Compliance with the implementation and management of the Avantor Enterprise Ethics and Compliance program, with support from various SMEs, COEs and an extended network of business unit compliance champions to be developed.
  • Partner with relevant stakeholders, including legal and compliance partners, business units, Enterprise Risk Management, and Internal Audit.
  • Maintain the Code of Ethics and Conduct training blueprint, direct development of the annual enterprise training plan, and review training content.
  • Maintain and provide guidance on Avantor Code of Ethics and Conduct, including education, training, and counseling in the areas of conflict of interest, anti-bribery/corruption, and antitrust.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships across the company to ensure effective business and cross-functional relationships.
  • Assist in the development of KPIs and data and analytics to allow for measurement of compliance and ethics program effectiveness.
  • Drive the collaboration across functional specific risk teams (e.g., Global Compliance, ERM, ESG, Internal Audit) to support an integrated and comprehensive approach to compliance activities. 
  • Develop and maintain oversight of the company's compliance auditing and monitoring program; including:
    • Assessing organizational compliance risk in creating and updating a risk-based audit and monitoring plan. Partnering with the business to address detected noncompliance including recommending and taking corrective actions when needed.
    • Track and report results of compliance investigations and the corrective actions taken to Compliance leadership and other internal key stakeholders as needed. Interpret findings/trends and carry out corrective action and retraining as needed.
  • Lead and manage on a day-to-day basis all ethics and compliance operations activities including providing compliance oversight, and participating, as required, in review and approval processes for core business activities.
Qualifications:
  • J.D. and a minimum of 8 years of Legal/Compliance experience, including at a publicly traded company, preferably in the Healthcare or Life Sciences industry.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and written skills, proven ability to work independently with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Strong presentation and training skills and ability to work independently.
  • Experience building and implementing a corporate compliance program – in whole or in part – from scratch.
  • High integrity, with a commitment to upholding Avantor’s values of innovation, customer centricity, accountability, respect, and excellence.
  • Comfortable working in a company experiencing rapid change and evolution.
  • Flexibility to adapt to new company priorities, processes, initiatives, and risk tolerance, and the ability to offer practical, compliance-based solutions.
