Position Summary

The primary functions of the Director, Disability Support Services, are to review all campus-wide medical/psychological documentation to determine appropriate accommodations as mandated under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and to follow up with students, external agencies, internal support personnel, and faculty to endure that accommodations are provided, without exception, in a timely manner as mandated by law.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Interpret documentation of all prospective DSS students to determine eligibility for DSS. Review and interpret evaluation reports/verification forms as requested and assess course needs for current DSS students. Knowledge of state and federal legislation governing services to students with disabilities and community resources.
Direct, train, supervise, and evaluate DSS staff. Hire, train, monitor and supervise work study students, temporary employees, contractual employees, and internal and external support providers as needed.
Acquaint DSS students with available college resources and liaison with other institutional services and services provided by external agencies
Present ADA guidelines for best instructor practice to AACC departments and programs. Serve as ongoing resources for faculty/staff regarding DSS questions and student behavioral and/or academic issues. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of emerging issues in disability services and share with college personnel.
Compile weekly, monthly, and annual reports on program activities
Collaborate with college departments, programs, and services to coordinate ADA services for college ceremonies, programs, events, and conferences. Serve as DSS representative to AACC work groups. Collaborate with facilities regarding accessibility issues. Provide workshops to DSS students.
Process/investigate issues surrounding accommodations to ensure timely resolution.
Organize and maintain a complete caseload log of DSS student interactions, including reports of student visits, student accommodation form pick-up, telephone calls and emails. Record all pertinent information in the student management system. Generate aggregate data as requested via queries and reports.
Maintain and update the DSS manual, DSS forms and all other DSS publications, including content for the college catalog, schedule of classes, ADA statement and website.

Required Qualifications:

Minimum Master's degree in a relevant field, such as Disability Studies, Higher Education Administration, Counseling/Psychology or Social Work
Five to ten years of relevant experience
Demonstrated knowledge of ADA and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
Demonstrated knowledge in the interpretation of psych-education evaluation reports and individual test results. Demonstrated proficiency in evaluating disability documentation and determining appropriate accommodation at the college level.
Ability to deal tactfully and efficiently with diverse student populations, faculty, administration, staff, community and government agencies and the public.
Experience providing assessments and evaluation report-writing for the purpose of diagnosing disabilities.
