Job Description
POSITION GOAL:


To provide efficient management of human and financial resources in order to fulfill the vocational, adult and community education needs of all citizens in Broward County.


ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:


The Director, Career, Technical Adult & Community Education shall carry out the performance responsibilities listed below.


  • Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or designee.
  • Ensure adherence to safety rules and procedures.
  • Review equipment lists for all Career, Technical, and Adult/ Community Education programs, including specifications related to size and design criteria, electrical requirements, price, and prospective vendors; assume responsibility for requisitions for all equipment and supplies related to federal projects in Career, Technical, and adult/Community Education and examine life expectancy standards for equipment used in Career, Technical, and Adult/Community Education programs.
  • Recruit qualified Career, Technical, and Adult/Community Education personnel for all Vocational, Adult and Community Education programs.
  • Prepare budgets for the Career, Technical, and Adult/ Community Education Department.
  • Review, evaluate, and recommend policies, practices, and programs for Career, Technical, and Adult/ Community Education at the local, state, and national level.
  • Work cooperatively with the business community in the ongoing validation of the instructional competencies.
  • Follow federal and state, as well as School Board policies.
  • Evaluate all instructional and non-instructional personnel employed in the Career, Technical, and Adult/Community Education county department.
  • Review current developments, literature and technical sources of information related to job responsibilities.
  • Review and give appropriate approval for all contractual agreements and/or serve as liaison between Vocational Education Programs under the jurisdiction of The School Board of Broward County and cooperating groups or agencies.
  • Evaluate instructional competencies in Career, Technical, and Adult/Community Education programs through the cooperative and organized effort of representatives from industry, education, and the lay public.
  • Perform and promote all activities in compliance with the equal employment and non-discrimination policies of The School Board of Broward County, Florida.
  • Review and give appropriate approval for all contractual agreements and/or serve as liaison between Adult and Community Education programs under the jurisdiction of The School Board of Broward County and cooperating groups or agencies.
  • Work cooperatively with Adult and Community Advisory Council and Coalition for Literacy.
  • Provide guidance for Career, Technical, and Adult/ Community Education administration in conducting an in-depth self-study program through on-site visitations to include the major areas of curriculum objectives directed toward students and community needs, facility/equipment/supplies and recordkeeping (placement and follow up).
  • Participate in training programs offered to enhance the individual skills and proficiency related to job responsibilities.
  • Develop strategies, in coordination with the Talent Development Department, and provide leadership for implementing competency-based instruction, including alternatives for scheduling, open entry-open exit concepts, self-paced and/or individualized instruction, and pre-service and in-service training for teachers of Career, Technical, and Adult/Community Education programs.
  • Review educational specifications for all Career, Technical, and Adult/Community Education programs; evaluate facility designs and recommend solutions to project architects; and provide consultative services during all phases of facility construction.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:


  • Computer skills are required for the position.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of progressively more responsible successful experience in school or district vocational, adult or community education which includes two (2) years of experience in an administrative position.
  • An earned master’s degree or higher from an accredited institution.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:


  • Bilingual skills.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the design and evaluation of curriculum services for vocational, adult or community education.
  • Valid Florida certificate or other state certificate as a Director of Vocational Education (Vocational Education Director).
  • Ability to articulate and promote adult concepts and ideas.
  • Data analysis and evaluation techniques.


SIGNIFICANT CONTACTS – frequency, contact, purpose, and desired end result:


Works with representatives from business, education, and the community to ensure that programs offered by Career, Technical, and Adult/Community Education are effective and meet the needs of Broward County citizens.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:


Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently as needed to move objects.


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:


Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the School Board.


EVALUATION:


Performance will be evaluated in accordance with Board policy.


Salary Range: $84,651 - $165,451
