The Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays an important role by teaching our individuals in a variety of residential and community settings. The position will be knowledgeable of personal plans and implementing their outcomes. This position is working in residential and community settings. Maintaining a healthy and safe environment will be a primary responsibility. Additional duties and responsibilities maybe implemented by a supervisor.

Essential Functions:

  • Serve meals family style when appropriate and as needed.
  • Work unusual or extra hours occasionally, as individual needs dictate.
  • Meet nutritional needs of individual’s menu planning, food purchasing, food preparation, and providing for special dietary needs.
  • Participate in personal plan development.
  • Treat individuals with dignity and respect as you expect to be treated.
  • Assisting the supervisor in transporting individual to needed doctor appointments, accompanying the individual to the doctor appointment, communicating medical information to supervisor and maintaining medical records.
  • Maintenance of positive public relations
  • Provide or arrange all transportation needs of the individual, as needed.
  • Offer choice and encourage individuals to indicate preferences.
  • Establishing positive working relationships with other staff employed in the company as well as other providers and State agencies.
  • Follow operation procedures and personnel policies
  • Provide an atmosphere and attitude conducive to a positive experience.
  • Remain awake and alert at all times. If working at a home approved for asleep overnight, DSPs are allowed to sleep between the hours of 11pm and 7am only, as long as the individual is sleeping and all overnight chores have been completed. DSPs are required to be awake any hour the individual is awake and may also be required to check on the individual throughout the overnight hours as instructed in their personal plan and/or by the Supervisor.
  • Maintaining, ordering, stocking and picking up of medications as needed.
  • Perform additional duties not specifically mentioned above when emergencies or unusual situations arise.
  • Maintenance of positive relationships with families, guardians, and/or advocates for other individuals of the facility.
  • Provide opportunities to be involved in the community and activities both private and public.
  • Maintain required documentation on all individual programs and outcomes, to include all and any electronic documentation.
  • Ability to follow directions/instructions from supervisors.
  • Perform required lifting as needed, using proper lifting techniques after proper training.
  • Ensure individual privacy is maintained in the home and community.
  • Administer medications as needed after proper training.
  • Work in other “Easy Living” facilities when requested by administrative staff.
  • Be an advocate for our individuals and serve as a role model.
  • Maintain a safe and clean environment.
  • Maintenance and upkeep of the home, grounds, furniture, equipment and vehicle as needed.
  • Attendance at staff meetings as required.
  • Report all medical concerns to supervisor.
  • Maintenance of all required financial records.
  • Assist in bathing, toileting, and grooming as needed.
  • Ensure the individual is cared for in a supportive and caring environment free of physical or verbal abuse and intimidation.
  • Periodically adjust work schedule as necessary to meet individual needs or to meet time-off needs of other staff members.
  • Promote and encourage independence in every individual.
  • Maintain chain of command and communication with supervisor.
  • Report all incidents of suspicion of abuse or neglect to supervisor immediately.
  • Monitor individual’s physical and emotional health and ensure that these needs are met.

Qualifications/Standards

  • Applicant must be 18 years of age and have proof of high school diploma or GED
  • Applicant is responsible to enroll, complete and maintain all training and certifications within the allotted time frame for any state mandated requirements including First Aid, CPR, Universal Precautions, Crisis Intervention, Medication Administration, Positive Behavior Supports, Missouri Quality Outcomes and Abuse and Neglect training.
  • Applicant cannot have a felony record or previous record of abuse or neglect as defined under the State MR/DD Licensing standards.
  • Applicant must have and maintain a valid Driver’s License, proof of liability insurance, current licensed vehicle and a good driving record as defined by our insurance company.
