Job Description

The Digital Video Producer I is tasked with the production and editing of narrative video content on ESPN-branded channels across social and digital platforms, especially YouTube. This role will additionally oversee production groups for select content. A qualified candidate will need to possess a commanding knowledge of digital media production and distribution techniques. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and constantly innovating their approach to content technically, tactically, and creatively. This candidate will also need to be an effective communicator and leader both within and outside the production group.

This position has the possibility of working in Los Angeles, CA.

Responsibilities:

  • Research, write and disseminate ideas for future content elements on ESPN platforms
  • Accountable for strict adherence to established production department procedures
  • Analyze usage and performance metrics that can lead to content enhancements and improvements
  • Manage direct reports who will be producing and editing for ESPN’s platforms as well
  • Provide timely, accurate and complete delivery of multimedia elements, and publish to various platforms
  • Write titles and descriptions of videos, design thumbnail images, and add other elements in the publishing process, in order to maximize effectiveness of content on digital platforms
  • Conduct research in the media asset management system to obtain material for the preparation of production elements
  • Create graphics (static and motion) that stand out in a social/digital environment
  • Edit high-end original longform and short form video content for ESPN’s YouTube channel, as well as other social and digital platforms and linear TV
  • Effectively manage production timelines to ensure projects are executed on time
  • Work with talent to write and refine scripts
  • Shoot video content in both studio and field environments

Basic qualifications:

  • Familiarity with ESPN programming and platforms
  • Expertise in video editing in Adobe Premiere or Final Cut Pro, as well as advanced abilities in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe After Effects
  • Strong video shooting ability, including lighting, camera and audio
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to manage one’s own projects, as well as those of others on the team
  • Masterful understanding of Search Engine Optimization methods and data analytics
  • Must possess demonstrated communication and organization skills, and ability to react quickly and positively under a wide variety of production situations
  • Strong storytelling skills, creativity and a passion for pitching and executing story ideas from ideation to publication
  • Strong knowledge of sports, including current athletes, events and storylines
  • Fluency in the YouTube mediascape and other emerging platforms. Excellent headline writing skills; an understanding of optimal tactics for social distribution

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience working with a variety of digital content management systems
  • A minimum of 4 years in multimedia content production or related experience
  • Strong presentation skills

Required education:

  • High school diploma

Preferred education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in broadcasting, communications, journalism or a closely related field

The hiring range for this position in California is $82,000.00 - $97,000.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
