Job Description

Under indirect supervision, operates radiographic equipment to produce radiographs of structures in the human body that are utilized by physicians to diagnose disease processes, pathology &/or trauma. Utilizes technical judgment & skills to ensure that produced radiographs are of the highest diagnostic quality & demonstrate the area(s) of interest. Positions assigned to this classification are distinguished from Radiologic Technologists I in that Radiologic Technologists II perform the full range of diagnostic exams, including the more complex studies such as - but not limited to - sialography, bronchography, arthography, plain tomographic studies & myelography.


Essential Functions:

  • Identifies the impact of cultural diversity & lifestyle choices on patient condition & makes accommodations for such differences.
  • Maintains equipment, supplies & work area in accordance w/Dept guidelines.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the cognitive, physical, emotional & chronological maturation process in delivery of srvs to patients of the age group served.
  • Explains procedures to patients to reduce anxieties & obtain patient cooperation.
  • Observes all organizational, regional, medical srv area & Diagnostic Imaging Dept policies & procedures.
  • Essential Clinical Duties & Responsibilities: Operates various x-ray & imaging control consoles, portable units, tube assemblies, lock systems, collimators, filters & tubes in order to perform diagnostic radiographic procedures & exams.
  • Maintains standards of professional behavior established to enhance quality of srv. Utilizes effective communication skills.
  • Utilizes proper body mechanics. Documents clinical activities in a timely, comprehensive, & accurate manner.
  • Demonstrates behavior that meets established standards for professionalism in all interactions w/patients & staff.
  • Upholds KP's Policies & Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities & applicable state, federal & local laws. Is responsive to the needs of others by exhibiting professional behavior toward members & coworkers.
- Including - but not limited to - gastro-intestinal exams, & plain tomography in areas such as surgery, cystoscopy & emergency room.
- Operates auxiliary equipment such as - but not limited to - tomographic units, Buckies, image intensifiers, spot film devices, video monitors, CR equipment, digital imaging, C-arms & portable units.
  • Prepares & administers the appropriate oral, intestinal & IV contrast media or, as appropriate, assists the radiologist w/admin.
  • Explains the exam/procedure to the patient in order to solicit cooperation & obtain patient understanding.
  • Completes requisition w/all required & pertinent info.
  • Utilizes appropriate photo-timing, milliamperes, kilovoltage, seconds, distance, collimation, intensifying screens, film speed & grids in order to produce diagnostic quality radiographs which demonstrate the area(s) of interest & exhibit acceptable contrast,density & detail.
  • Uses lead shielding & collimation as appropriate.
  • Complies w/all required continuing education standards.
  • Observes all required radiation safety/protection regulations & standards in order to minimize dose & avoid/minimize repeat films.
  • May perform other duties & required & assigned.
  • Utilizes a knowledge of proper patient/part positioning & Dept protocols to obtain routine & other indicated views required for standard projections.
  • Assesses the patient's history & overall condition & makes the necessary modifications in technique &/or positioning to compensate for pathology or other considerations.
  • Loads & unloads radiographic film.
  • Ensures that correct & required patient identification info & left or right marker appears on all films.
  • Centers tube & film to area of interest.
  • Critiques radiographs for diagnostic qualities & other properties such as artifacts & appropriately consults w/supervisor &/or radiologist to clarify any areas of uncertainty.


Pay Grade: 26


Basic Qualifications:

Experience
  • Fluoroscopy Permit issued by the State of California required.
  • Certification as a Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT) issued by the State of California, Department of Health Services.
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of and to utilize the theories, principles, practices and techniques of radiologic technology.
  • Registration as a Registered Radiologic Technologist (radiography) by the ARRT.
  • American Heart Association Approved BLS
Education
  • Graduation from an accredited educational program in diagnostic radiologic technology approved by the American Medical Association and the American College of Radiology.
License, Certification, Registration
  • BLS and certification as a Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT) by the State of California, Department of Health Services.
  • Registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) as a Registered Radiologic Technologist (radiography).
