About the Opportunity
Position Summary:
The division of Information Technology Services is currently seeking a talented individual to fill the role of DevOps Engineer. The DevOps Engineer will provide operational support of our enterprise- wide web hosting environments. This complex environment includes databases, front end servers, web applications, and load balancers, hosted in multiple on-premises datacenters and across multiple cloud computing services. This role is responsible for establishing and maintaining processes that ensure a stable hosting environment and the availability of sites/apps function and services. The DevOps Engineer will have a deep understanding of LAMP based web applications and have previous experience supporting CMSs such as WordPress and Drupal.
The DevOps Engineer’s responsibilities include:
Having experience with design and deployment of infrastructure as a code for both microservices and web applications. Establish Web system specifications by analyzing access, information, and security requirements; designing system infrastructure. Document system configuration, processes, and procedures.
Maintain Web system performance by performing system monitoring and analysis, and performance tuning; troubleshooting systems; designing and running system load/stress testing; escalating application problems to vendor. Upgrades Web system by conferring with vendors and services; developing, testing, evaluating, and installing enhancements and new software.
Secure Web system by developing system access, monitoring, control, and evaluation; establishing and testing disaster recovery policies and procedures; completing back-ups; maintaining documentation. Working with Information Security Specialist for routine audit of the related systems.
Work with development team to set up development and testing environment and a process to deploy application to each environment. Evaluate and propose new or improved system architecture.
Provide administrative support and monitoring database systems. Writing scripts or using tools to extract data from the database or load data into the database as needed. Update data or content to ensure the freshness of the web system.
To ensure that essential services are provided to the university community, the employee will be required to work outside their regular working hours as needed.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have the following:
  • Exceptional technical and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledgeable with HTML5, CSS, JQuery, PHP, WordPress
  • 3-5 years’ experience of web server configuration and maintenance
  • Ability to manage various workload of projects with many priorities. Prioritization skills are key, as the nature of opportunity, urgency of need and size of the work rapidly change
  • CI/CD Implementation and troubleshooting familiarity: Designing, configuring, and managing CI/CD pipelines to automate software builds, testing, and deployments in AWS and Azure cloud environments and implementing best security practices in CI/CD pipelines
  • Bachelor’s degree in Math, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is preferred, but not required
  • Exceptional communication skills including written, verbal and presentations
  • Experience with infrastructure as code (IaC) to utilize tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation to define and provision cloud infrastructure resources in an automated manner
  • Experience with development and deployment of microservices on Amazon Web Services is a must
  • Exceptional team player
  • Knowledge of system integration and web services is a plus
  • Experience with Azure infrastructure and deployment process in Microsoft Azure preferred
  • Experience with Test-driven development and Continuous Integration
  • Experience with agile and scrum-based development methodologies
  • Experience with Amazon Web Services, including EC2, Lambda, and CloudFormation
  • Familiar with AWS RDS, MySQL, Postgres and ability to write SQL queries
  • Troubleshooting production issues and working with development team to diagnose and resolve
JOB DUTIES:
  • Perform monitoring of websites including, but not limited to, availability, website system performance analyses and audits, security threats. (25%)
  • Participate in Web Hosting modernization projects, support other projects making use of Web Hosting resources, researching industry standards (25%)
  • Operational support of Web Hosting environments, migrating existing websites, supporting CMS Essential installation/maintenance, assist users in developing, troubleshooting, and updating websites as needed. (50%)
