Mechanical Design Drafter

Summary

Industrial designers work from project documents to create design solutions for new and existing industrial projects that are innovative, practical, and suitable for operation.

Responsibilities of the job include, but are not limited to:

  • Consult project managers, engineers, and clients to determine design requirements.
  • Sketch out conceptual designs on paper or on a computer that provide a better visual of design ideas. Create sections and details from the electrical plan.
  • Explain concepts to construction workers.
  • Prepare engineering drawings that detail plans and specifications.
  • Create details for construction purposes.
  • Understand NEC Code, hazardous classification, and grounding requirements.
  • Present designs, concepts, and/or final work to clients for evaluation.
  • Work with other specialists such as engineers or manufacturers to evaluate whether their design concepts will fill a need at a reasonable cost.
  • Evaluate product safety, appearance, and function to determine whether a design is practical.
  • Use computer software to develop 3D models of different designs.

Key skills

  • Proficient in AutoCAD/CadWorx: Able to produce drawings in AutoCAD/CadWorx with minimal supervision.
  • Good visual and spatial awareness
  • Basic piping plan and piping isometric dimensioning experience.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills
  • Basic Piping Component understanding.
  • Well-developed technical and creative skills
  • Experience with conceptual, FEED, and detailed design of large industrial facilities.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
High school diploma (or equivalent) is preferred, as well as some drafting and related course work including basic mathematics.
SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:Basic PC skills and fundamentals of CAD are require

Salary Range:

$20.63 - $36.11
