Position Overview

Under the direction of the Engineering Supervisor, the Mechanical Design Engineer will design Gleason products to meet or exceed company production and quality standards, applicable regulatory agency standards, customer specifications, and meet delivery requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities


The following roles and responsibilities will be required to fulfil the position and are not all inclusive.
  • Function as technical resource for product field support and resolving questions and problems.
  • Process reports relevant to product design, quality, and testing.
  • Ensure conformance to industry regulatory standards for safety, quality, and manufacturability such as ASME, NEMA, UL, and CSA.
  • Enter and maintain material master data and assembly BOMs using business application (SAP).
  • Design Gleason products and components, meeting engineering standards, applicable codes, production standards, customer specifications, while staying within cost and schedule constraints.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to resolve problems and ensure continuous improvement.
  • Create and maintain 3D solid models, design layouts, and production drawings using CAD tools.
  • Process sales orders and release notices through engineering using business application (SAP).
  • Stay current with new developments in the industry.

Skills and Experience

  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to perform structural analysis, component stress and strain analysis, and horsepower and torque calculations related to electric motors and gear boxes.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Three or more years of full-time work experience related to this job position is required in addition to the educational requirement.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as technical specifications, professional journals, and blueprints. Ability to write reports and documentation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with vendors, customers, and other employees of the organization.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD design tools, familiarity with Autodesk Inventor desired.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
