Job Description

The Box Truck Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of products to customers in a manner that meets customer requirements. He or she will load and unload the products from the vehicle and verify contents against shipping invoices or inventories. Most importantly and without exception, the driver operates within the legal speed limits and in a safe fashion at all times.

  • Ability to drive and maintain a valid driver’s license
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • 1 – 3 years of direct experience in a similar position preferred
  • Must be 21 years or older
  • Ability to secure and maintain auto-liability insurance in accordance with state laws
  • Clean driving record

Responsibilities

  • Maintain constant communication and collaboration with the sales and delivery departments to work together as a team
  • Prepares specific request notes identifying particular loading and delivery activities as desired by customers or warranted by the delivery schedule in an effort to enhance the effectiveness of the delivery activity
  • Monitors and rotates product in customer accounts as needed.
  • Updates previous day’s routes by reviewing that days routing sheets and noting any discrepancies or problems and adjusting the sheet for this information in an effort to enhance the efficiency of the routing and delivery activity
  • Become familiar with United’s portfolio of brands
  • Determines needed stops and most precise use of available trucks to most efficiently meet delivery demands
  • Plans the delivery of route to be taken by each driver in the delivery of goods and products to customers
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Verify count and condition of goods unloaded; and accurately report all overages, shortages, and breakage/damage
  • Complete pre-trip inspections before leaving the warehouse and post-trip inspections upon return to the warehouse and properly document all maintenance problems and defects in writing
  • Comply with all Department of Transportation standards and regulations and maintain a good driving record
  • Identifies and assigns backhaul orders to the appropriate delivery driver in an effort to ensure that the backhaul is assigned to the driver who will be delivering to that particular area
  • Build and ensure excellent customer service by consistently delivering orders on time and in good condition and by acting in a courteous and professional manner
  • Report customer needs and concerns to appropriate management and participate in delivering resolutions
  • Remain knowledgeable of and adhere to federal and state regulations
  • Prepares loading and driver sheets showing the route assigned and ensures that each driver is provided an accurate and understandable listing of stops for any particular day; updates this information by completing a weekly and master loading and driver sheet listing for use in planning and evaluation activities
  • Unload and deliver products at assigned stops using hand trucks
