SUMMARY


Provide support and consultation to staff, parents and students in implementation of student code of conduct; coordinate academy programs; implement proactive communication between school and home to support discipline and other expectations leading to student success.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


  • In concert with academy social worker, school leadership and others, develop and implement student behavior management initiatives. Consult with individuals and groups of students, staff, families and others to guide students toward desired behaviors.
  • May coordinate school programs such as before- or after-school offerings, school security, special events and others.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Participate in child study team or other groups to address student conduct issues as required.
  • Provide referrals to appropriate professionals in the school and/or the outside community.
  • In coordination with staff and leadership, monitor student behavior and implement appropriate disciplinary actions; create or ensure the creation of related documentation; ensure good communication between school and families to support academy code of conduct and facilitate student success.
  • Provide feedback to school personnel based on student observations.
  • Communicate with students and their families/guardians to ensure clear understanding of academy behavior expectations, implement consequences for infractions and promote a positive school climate


Requirements


  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate individual and small group interactions; 1 or more years successful experience in a school setting addressing student conduct issues.
  • Superior communication skills required, both verbal and written; strong ability to communicate diplomatically and persuasively in emotionally charged situations.
  • Good knowledge of school policies and code of conduct as acquired through prior education of experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, guidance counseling or social work desirable but not required.
  • Basic knowledge of special education law and student rights and responsibilities, as acquired through prior experience.
