IMMEDIATE OPPORTUNITIES: Data Scientist

USD Pay Range: $70,000-85,000/year commensurate with education and experience.

(FULL TIME-EXEMPT) onsite in State College, PA

This position is a full-time exempt position sited in State College, PA. This is NOT a remote work opportunity. The Data Scientist position is expected to fully engage in routine, on-site work and collaboration with the team located at Innovation Park in State College, PA.

• This position is open to entry-level Data Scientists B.S. degree in Math, Applied Sciences, Data Science, Engineering, or other related field.

About Croptix:

Headquartered in State College, PA, Croptix is a small-but-growing venture-backed, AgTech company located in Innovation Park – Near Penn State University campus. Croptix offers farmers a practical, affordable crop disease screening solution that “sees” the symptoms of plant disease inside of leaves before those symptoms are visible to the human eye and before the disease has time to spread. The services leverage advanced analytics coupled with field deployable sensor technology to equip farmers with the tools to diagnose crop disease early and take effective action to reduce losses due to disease. Currently Croptix is focused on providing a service solution to citrus farmers in the United States dealing with devastating citrus diseases, including HuangLongBing disease, which has no cure and has plagued citrus production globally.

Croptix is looking to immediately hire an exceptional Data Scientist who can add even more horsepower to our development, performance, validation, production systems and processes to allow Croptix to deliver new tools to our farmers to detect and mitigate crop loss. Croptix needs creative problem solvers with strong project management skills who meet deadlines while working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, who are passionate about bringing technology solutions to agriculture to improve and protect food production.

Job Duties and Responsibilities (included but are not limited to):

• Developing tools to help us process data more efficiently.
• Working independently and collaboratively on projects as part of our Data Team.
• Building Machine Learning models to help improve our disease-classifying algorithms.

Skills, Qualifications & Requirements:

• Experience using some or all of the following machine learning algorithms: logistic regression, random forest, XGBoost, principal components analysis, linear discriminant analysis.
• Python programming experience (numpy, pandas, scikit-learn)
• Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States. This company does not sponsor applicants for work visas.
• Clear communication skills: our deliverables come in the form of PDF reports, slide decks, wiki pages, Jupyter notebooks, conference posters, and conversations.
• If hired, must adhere to all company policies and procedures and other prescribed best practices/industry standards.
• A B.S. degree in Math, Applied Sciences, Data Science, Engineering, or equivalent/related field
• Proficiency with Jupyter, QGIS3, GitHub, Slack, G Suite (Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive)

Preferred Additional Experience:

• Experience building Python packages
• Previous work experience as a Data Analyst/Data Scientist or related field
• Experience designing experiments
• Familiarity with MySQL
• Experience working with spectral data and/or signal processing
• Knowledge of statistics fundamentals: (generalized) linear models, mixed models, outlier detection
• Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or pursuing
