SUMMARY
A Data Scientist at Zappos is responsible for driving the customer experience forward, leveraging a combination of existing machine-learning tools coupled with custom techniques catered toward the problems at hand. You will be part of a small team dealing with high stakes problems without obvious or straightforward solutions. You will have autonomy when it comes to the methodologies and approaches you take to solving these business and customer facing problems. Your deep knowledge in at least of the following fields - NLP, Computer Vision, and/or Forecasting, will continue to support the organization's initiatives.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
  • Mentoring, developing, and training the Data Science community on complex technical issues.
  • Proposing and promoting new ideas to management and technical leaders.
  • Defining end-to-end modeling frameworks/workflows incorporating modeling and best practices.
  • Designing and leading implementation of scalable and reliable approaches to extract the best information possible from the data.
  • Recommending the right data science strategy and methods based on complex interactions among teams, processes and software system.
  • Going beyond your existing toolkit to deliver a solution catering to multiple stakeholders.
  • Influencing your team’s technical and business strategy and strategies of related teams.
  • Make key decisions and take ownership of your team’s outputs.
  • Building meaningful and memorable experiences for our customers through machine learning driven systems.
  • Providing technical leadership to other data scientists and keep them current on scientific advancements.
WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE
  • Familiarity with deep learning techniques such as CNNs, LSTMs, & Transformers, along with an understanding of the implications of various architecture designs.
  • Programming skills in Python and/or Java. Familiar with distributed computing frameworks like Spark.
  • Strong mathematical knowledge and understanding of machine learning.
  • Experience with cloud-based solutions, such as AWS.
  • Highly skilled across multiple data science disciplines with experience in a variety of Data Science algorithms including, but not limited to, tree-based models, neural networks, genetic algorithms, and forecasting.
  • Strong understanding of the machine learning process, including training and validation, regularization, variance-bias tradeoff, dimensionality reduction, and hyper-parameter optimization.
  • M.S. in Computer Science, Mathematics, Economics, Operations Research, or related field and/or equivalent years of experience.
  • Experience with statistical modeling techniques such as forecasting, probability theory, experimental design and strong mathematical understanding of fundamentals such as variance, key distributions.
  • At least five (5) years of experience as a Data Scientist in industry setting.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
The base pay range for this position is $205,000 to $233,000 per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, a full range of medical and other benefits is offered.
