Job Summary
UT Southwestern Medical Center is hiring for Data Scientist I, Levi Lab
The Levi Lab integrates multi-omics-based approaches in the fields of musculoskeletal development, homeostasis, repair, and regeneration headed by Benjamin Levi, MD. The lab uses transgenic animal models, combined with bioinformatic approaches to understand the mesenchymal-immune cell interactions which occur within the stem cell niche under physiological conditions and how these signaling cascades drive regenerative or fibrotic outcomes following injury. Understanding these divergent signaling mechanisms will hopefully help guide future therapeutic strategies to promote faithful repair of damaged tissues. The data scientist will conduct bioinformatic analyses to support ongoing projects in the lab related to heterotopic ossification and regeneration. The candidate should be proficient in R/Python and preferably have basic knowledge of single cell RN sequencing analysis using standard packages (Seurat, Monocle, etc.). The candidate will also be responsible for supporting a DoD funded multi-PI consortium in the analysis of spatial transcriptomic data across multiple musculoskeletal disease types following training from, and in close collaboration with the PI. Future work may also be responsible for leading their own bioinformatics studies under the guidance of Dr. Levi and in collaboration with the lab's bench and animal research terms
Experience and Education
M.S. in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, (Bio)mathematics, (Bio)statistics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or related field OR B.S. with demonstrated experience in broadly defined areas of bioinformatics. 0 - 2 years post-graduation experience in data analysis and/or scientific software development.
Job Duties
Analyzes and develops formalisms, algorithms and software for applications in biomedical research.
Develops and maintains software tools and infrastructure for resolving specific problems.
Assists in the development, testing and revision of programs in a team with diverse bioinformatics expertise.
