Job Description

Labcorp is seeking an experienced data privacy professional to serve in the role of Data Protection Officer (DPO). The DPO will have primary responsibility for oversight and management of the Company’s compliance obligations under the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and similar privacy laws and regulations that require a DPO.

Experience and professional qualities for the role:

  • Ability to communicate effectively with data subjects, data protection authorities, works councils, and other controllers and processors across national boundaries and cultures;
  • Experience with the details and practical application of the GDPR and its implementing legislation in EU member states and possess an in-depth understanding of the GDPR;
  • Possess integrity, professional ethics, and sound judgement in managing risks and enforcing company-wide standards; and
  • Experience advising internal and external stakeholders around data protection questions, risks, and issues.
  • Previous experience in a compliance, data protection and/or privacy role, preferably in a legal role;
  • Familiarity with information technology programming and infrastructure, information security practices, and audits preferred;
  • Familiarity with privacy and security risk assessments, best practices and gap analysis, privacy certifications/seals, and information security certifications;
  • Familiarity or experience with implementing data protection policies, procedures, and training materials and promoting a culture of data protection compliance across business functions;

In this role, the successful candidate will:

  • Assist in maintaining appropriate records of processing activities for various business functions;
  • Assist with the day-to-day legal aspects of international privacy and information security investigations, including managing projects and documenting incident investigation and response;
  • Serve as the point of contact for data subjects and regulatory bodies, including Supervisory Authorities, for privacy requests and complaints;
  • Manage all necessary filings and registrations as required under certain privacy regimes, including the GDPR.
  • Assist in regular assessments and audits of ongoing compliance with data privacy regimes applicable to the Company, including the GDPR;
  • Inform and advise the Company of obligations under the GDPR and other privacy regimes;
  • Advise senior leadership, including the board, on potential privacy and data governance risks and impacts, making recommendations to manage any risks;
  • Oversee internal and third-party risk and data privacy impact assessment (DPIA), transfer impact assessment (TIA), and privacy by design processes;
  • Assist in the development of privacy training to facilitate and promote information privacy awareness within the Company and related entities;
  • Assess the adequacy and implementation of applicable data transfer mechanisms; and
  • Work closely with the Company’s Information Technology and Office of Information Security in maintaining compliance with data privacy regimes applicable to the Company, including the GDPR.
  • Oversee the process for managing and responding to data subjects’ requests relating to their personal data as required under certain privacy regimes, including the GDPR, that are applicable to the Company.

To fulfill this role, the candidate must possess the following:

  • Data privacy expertise, including ideally in the health care sector;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and undertake mission critical tasks in a fast-paced environment; and
  • Experience with data incident response, cybersecurity, privacy, compliance, and investigations;

The ideal candidate will also have:

  • A legal background;
  • Recognized privacy certifications such as CIPP certifications;
  • Experience with cross-cultural communications; and
  • Fluency in multiple languages.
  • Experience with Governance, Risk and Compliance systems;

Pay: $140,000 - $160,000 + bonus

Benefits: All job offers will be based on a candidate’s skills and prior relevant experience, applicable degrees/certifications, as well as internal equity and market data. Regular, full-time or part-time employees working 20 or more hours per week are eligible for comprehensive benefits including: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, STD/LTD, 401(K), ESPP, Paid time off (PTO) or Flexible time off (FTO), Commissions, and Company bonus where applicable.

Position is remote, preferably based in Europe/UK.
