The Ohio Department of Health supports a hybrid teleworking model. This position may work a hybrid schedule at the discretion of the manager or supervisor, which will require occasional attendance in the office for training, meetings and other operational needs. Employees must reside within a reasonable distance to their assigned headquarters for compliance with workplace reporting requirements.

What You'll Do:

The Bureau of Vital Statistics operates a statewide system for the registration of births, deaths, and other vital events that happen within the State of Ohio. We are currently seeking an experienced clerical support candidate to perform data entry tasks for the registration of vital events (e.g., births, deaths) using specified data entry software. Primary duties include:

  • Operating a computer to key data on demographic and medical information using IPHIS/EDRS database software
  • Identifying and addressing discrepancies in order information with staff
  • Generating query letters and responds to email inquiries regarding Vital Statistics processes and procedures
  • Scanning and/or photocopying certificates and attachments
  • Performing clerical tasks related to data processing (e.g., counts, sorts and distributes incoming documents for retention or distribution; files documents; pulls book volumes)

Qualifications


Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition, subtraction, multiplication & division & in reading, writing & speaking common English vocabulary; 6 mos trg. or 6 mos. exp. in use of data entry equipment;

  • Or 4 mos. exp. as Data Entry Operator 1, 12331;
  • Or equivalent Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.


Knowledge of addition, subtraction, multiplication & division; office practices & procedures*. Skill in operation of data entry equipment; operation of peripheral machines (e.g., scanner, printer); data verification equipment*. Ability to proofread material, recognize errors & make corrections; read, copy & record figures; check pairs of items that are similar or dissimilar; proofread material, move limbs, fingers easily to perform manual functions repeatedly.

ALL ANSWERS TO THE SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONS MUST BE SUPPORTED BY THE WORK EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION PROVIDED ON YOUR CIVIL SERVICE APPLICATION.

Unless required by legislation, the selected candidate will begin at Pay Grade 25, Step 1 of the union/exempt (OCSEA/1199) Pay Range Schedule ($18.60 per hour), with an opportunity for pay increase after six months ($19.00) of satisfactory performance and then a yearly raise thereafter.
