To support the tax laws of North Carolina, the mission of the Submissions Processing Division (SPD) is to receive and process taxpayer submissions consistently, efficiently, and effectively, while ensuring the confidentiality and integrity of that data. Our vision is to be a Division that meets its quality targets, sets a high standard for other Divisions, and leads innovation for the Agency. The submissions processed annually by SPD account for well over 90% of total revenues collected and more than 11 million tax returns processed by the Agency.


SPD is organized into three sections: Electronic Submissions, encompassing several business areas, receives and processes electronic returns and payments, registers taxpayers, and ensures suspended returns post properly; Paper Submissions, encompassing several business areas, receives and processes paper returns, payments, and taxpayer correspondence, and works with TSCO’s Paper Software Provider Validation and Support unit to make sure tax software products meet Agency business requirements and standards; and Quality Assurance, encompassing Continual Service Improvement (CSI), which resolves taxpayer inquiries about returns, leads discovery of continual improvement opportunities, and collects and interprets data; Project and Coordination, which oversees and monitors division projects, initiatives, and knowledge; Records Management, which monitors records retention and addresses internal and external records requests; and Staffing Administration, which oversees SPD’s hiring process and training of seasonal staff.


Primary Purpose of the Position:


The Data Edit Specialist position is within the Data Edit unit. This unit consists of one team leader, and nine permanent employees. During the peak season several temporary employees are hired. The primary purpose for the Data Specialist is to enter, edit and verify required data from taxpayer submissions consistently, efficiently, and accurately. The Data Edit unit strives in processing taxpayer’s information accurately while providing great service to our internal customers and suppliers.

Minimum Education And Experience Requirements

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one year of administrative experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
