CURATORIAL PRINT & CONTENT ASSOCIATE
- Manages special tasks as needed, including distribution of SAM curatorial publications to rights grantors.
- Processes all exhibition and publication contract related payments and invoices.
- Coordinates with outside and on-call editors on delivery of manuscripts. Finalizes and transfers all accurate materials on time to the publisher.
- Coordinates publication meetings with curators, SAM Store, and publisher.
- Demonstrates editorial review on text and web content.
- Serves as project manager for all in-house produced curatorial publications.
- Formats labels using InDesign for SAM collection galleries.
- In collaboration with the Curatorial and the Communications Department, serves as in-house expert on institutional style guide. Supervises on-call editor.
- Manages label schedule and timeline for 20+ installations and exhibitions per year.
- Secures permissions and image rights for publications.
- Leads label equity review on exhibitions and collection reinstallations with cross-divisional partners.
- Tracks publication budgets and curatorial inventory and distribution.
- Reviews all curatorial web content, gallery text, and wall labels with the perspective of equity and access, provides feedback to curators, and routes label copy for approval and final production.
- Manage curatorial texts and publication schedule, including contract and budget schedules.
- Serves as institutional liaison with publishers, printers, and distributors.
- Reviews publication-related contracts with legal department.
- Demonstrated experience managing publications
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to communicate effectively and to project a professional image when giving and taking information in writing, in person, and over the phone.
- Demonstrated proficiency and accuracy using MS Office products, including Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, SharePoint and other software programs such as InDesign, Asana, and TMS. Using InDesign is required in this role.
- Ability to work with close attention to detail and to maintain confidentiality.
- Demonstrated project management, and image rights and copyright administration experience.
- Bachelor's degree (master’s degree preferred) and three or more years’ of relevant administrative work experience within a not-for-profit setting, or the equivalent education and experience.
- Familiarity with works of art and art terminology and institutions.
- Ability to work professionally and tactfully, to adhere to Museum policies and ethics of racial equity to support management decisions in a positive, professional manner.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with management, employees, and museum partners. Ability to supervise employees and volunteers.
- Ability to take initiative and prioritize multiple competing tasks; excellent time-management and problem-solving skills.
