This is the entry, training, and sub-journey level of the Criminalist series. Under the direct supervision of a Criminalist Manager or Criminalist Supervisor or the lead of a Senior Criminalist, the DNA Special Skills Data Bank Criminalist may be assigned to:


  • Process samples in the CAL-DNA Data Bank Program. This work involves developing DNA profiles from samples collected from qualified convicted offenders and arrestees and uploading these profiles to the FBI’s Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) where they are searched against DNA profiles from evidence from unsolved crimes.


  • Work on specialized projects within the CAL-DNA Data Bank program.
